  • can anyone help with logo layout please?

Here’s alogo I just did to be printed on magnets.
    Critique please…??
I know the town Name isn’t showing up well, i believe because of the reduced jpeg.. looks well on the cdr file. I’ll have ot wait for a proof from my printer.

Also… some input on my pricing and supplier:

My supplier will give me 4 of these 13.4" x 32" (laminated Scotchprint) for my minumum order cost of $150, plus $20 shipping.
I"ll then need to apply to mag sheet and cut out by hand… (1 hour ?)
Design time 2 hours with customer…. order and handling… all but an hour.

so what i came up with is….. $170 prints
    $25 mag sheet
    $120 4 hours of labor
    $315 total for 4 mags
…. seems like a lot, but I’m not making a killing…. Is there a better way, to offer printed mags, or should they just cost more?
Thanks in advance for any input….
    as you guys say… Cheers!

    Hey Steve,
I think you have to treat magnetics just like doing something on the vehicle, and I think that is what you did. It’s the same amount of material (if not more with the magnetics) and it’s not like it takes you any less time to design.
BTW, I like the colors used in the design.

    Thanks Marek…
    That’s kinda’ what I wanted ot hear….
With that line of thinking, I should be able to get 400 for the job…
    Maybe next time.

    Really nice designs Steve 😀

I thought at first that it seemed a lot, but when I broke it down by 4 then by 2 to give a rough £ conversion, £39.38 each is not bad for something of this quality and individuality. I assume these are for 2 vehicles?
£80 per vehicle is very good for these, I’d guess.

Also, our mags over here come in 24″ wide, if yours are the same your going to have a lot of wastage. Could you not scale them down to 12″ deep by whatever (?) I realise you’re going to lose 3-4″ off the length, and maybe this isnt going to suit your customer.

Anyway, just my thoughts, take no notice of me, I’m tired & wanna go home!
BTW how are you going to make any dosh on this? You need to charge more!

fyi $315 is £176.011, cheaper then a price of a barrel of oil I suspect

    Hi Steve,

I think you are selling yourself to cheap!

What about the markup on the digital prints?

I think your creative is worth more then you are charging.

Design is real nice. Are you going to contour cut it?
Only thing I would do is make the tel number a bit clearer.

    Thanks for all the input…
I think it’s too cheap also, but I did one printed mag job prior to this and it was cheaper form my supplier.. he now says that was a mistake.
I’ve been focusing on pricing for a while now… i’m tired of working day and night for half of what i used to make…
I am betting busier and that makes it easier to get what you need.
thanks again for all the comments….

    Steve,

Do you break down the pricing for the customer or just give a lump sum price?

I like to charge sep for design and signs. This way the design work has a value and customers don’t expect it to be thrown in.

I get my prints for $6.50 sq. foot off a Solvent Based Mimaki. They aren’t laminated, not sure how important that is on a magnetic job.

    Bryan

ps going to try and make it to the expo Saturday, but we just got swamped so it isn’t looking good.

$6.50! oh my, thats practically free. Sadly we cant buy the ink for that so I guess that is bulk ink on the Mimaki

I do time and materials, but i haven’t gotten a set square ft. price really, and havent done enough to get a good feel for the options. Plus I have a minumum order price of 150, that I can count on.
Hope you can make it saturday.. if not try and do Atlantic city. I’m swamped too… Just wish i had more of my time billable lately…
    Later…

I like the design to Steve, well done on that.
Lorraine magnetic sheet doesnt only come in 24″ width, I buy it at a metre sometimes.
Dave $6.50 was per square foot don’t forget, this works out to about $70 or about £40 per square metre unlaminated.

Steve, Looks great. Nice colors and contrast. I hate pricing magnets, and I hate making magnets. Same thing with yard signs (corugated especially) as your customers view them as more disposable signage and therefore think they should be cheaper. Marek’s right, charge them the same as if you were putting it right on their truck.

I like it a lot, Steve – I am making a lot more magnetic signs these days using the Summa and I have the cost calculated down to about $1.53/SF plus design time and application. Closer to the city they are gettting $120 a pair for Magnetic signs! Nice design work! Gave me an idea for a fade!
