  • can anyone help with font navigator problem please?

This hasnt happened me before…bear with me while I try to explain the prob.
If I use the Font Navigator in x3 and install a font…..when I return to the program and try to select a font I get 100s of fonts with ‘not found’ on them. They are there but not available for selection.
If I close Corel and restart it returns to normal minus the font I tried to install…….any ideas whats going on? Hope that makes sense.

Have you loaded this font before? It might be that the font is corrupt. Also possibly a font cache problem. I’m not sure how the Windows side (if that’s what you’re on) handles those. I’m on a Mac, and usually most problems that I have are related to fonts / font cache problems. It might be worth your while to find a font cache cleaning program if one isn’t built into your font manager. The font manager that I used is from Linotype called FontExplorerX. It’s free and has utilities built in to clean font cache files and identify duplicates / corrupt fonts. There is a version for both Mac and PC. I can only attest to how good the one on the Mac is though, as I haven’t used it on the PC. http://www.linotype.com/fontexplorerX

That is why I never use Corel font manager. It has always done that to me. Just so you know you’re not alone!

Harry have you tried doing this

To correct certain font problems, you can rebuild your Font Catalog.

    To rebuild the Font Catalog

    1 Close Font Navigator.
2 Using the Windows Find utility, locate the file FontNav.fdb and delete the file.
3 Restart Font Navigator. Use the Font Navigator Wizard to set up your new Font Catalog.

when you use the wizard just point it towards the folders where you keep all your fonts

works for me but i still admit that bitstream is tetchy

Happens to me too. I found the solution is to never have X3 running while using Font Nav and loading fonts – then it’s not a problem.

I use X3 and the font nav all the time. I’ve never had this happen (until I try it monday when I fully expect that I’ll start to experience the problem :lol1: )

Seriously though, when I’m using X3 and need to install a font, I just reduce the X3, load the navigator up, install the font, then keep going. Its never been an issue at all. I’ll sometimes just keep the navigator running all day in the reduced mode.

Sorry I can’t help tho Harry.

    Happens to me too Harry.

It also sometimes trys to install all the fonts. Have you noticed that it’s just a shortcut in the font folder as well, the actual font stays were font navigator found it.
This can be a bit of a pain sometimes as all my fonts are kept on a central server so if the network goes down I lose these fonts.

I wish I could be of more direct help, but I don’t have the same software. Is the font a new one? Have you installed it before, and did it work correctly? Also, have you added any other new hardware or software recently? I have Font Lab, so if you want me to try and re-encode the font for you, it might help. If the font is orphaned or corrupt it could definitely cause strange problems to your system. Let me know if you want me to try and re-encode, and I’ll post my e-mail on here. Good Luck!

thanks for the feedback here folks, flat out busy and cant get tiem to look into it. Basically what has happened to keep me running is that Simon’s software has loaded every single font I have into Corel, it has slowed up a bit, but at least I can work. Will have a look and try the suggestions here when I get the current job out. Cant understand why the Corel icons have stopped working though. And I havent loaded any new software recently.
Cheers from the home of the bewildered!!! 😮 😮

No Worries, we all have to make some $$$. 😀 Maybe all of the fonts are turned on and it’s bogging your machine down? Out of the 5638 fonts that I have I have 509 turned on with no computer lag. I’m not sure how many it would take to fubar it though. I would try and de-activate most of the ones you don’t need to use.
