I guess you don’t have the genuine Italic installed for the said font.
Word I believe somehow creates the italic .

    Thanks Bill….. (:)

Try creating the text in another vector program like illustrator and seeing if it will display it in italics.

If it does, convert it to curves and export it to corel

Corel can be a bit funny with text

#1: PLEASE don’t tell me that you are designing in Word.
That is reserved exclusively for customer’s nephews.
#2: Hey, I’m no Corel expert, but can’t you just double-click on the word & italicize it manually?
(I think that’s what you figured out on your own)

Never had a problem with fonts in Corel If its a true font it will be available in Corel if NOT its wonderful world of Word. Not all fonts have Italic versions…..

Seriously tho, You can get an Italic effect using the Skew command, give that a try & see if it is acceptable.

    Arrange/Transformations/Skew

    err, as DTG said above.

FWIW, CorelDRAW does not ‘faux’ bold or ‘faux’ italicize fonts, unlike most word processors. Word creates the appearance of bold and italic on fonts by adding and outline (bold) and skewing text if the correct fonts do not exist on the system.

Either skew the font (then convert to curves), or install the italic, bold, and bold italic version on the font (if available).
