complete guess but is that not something to do with the network/software issue?
another complete guess, do you run tropp on win xp service pack 2? if so thats probably the reason, for some reason troop hates that version of xp.

hi graeme i have cadet running signlab 7.1
i have norton anti virus shite installed i have to switch it off before i can send any jobs to the cadet. just a shot in the dark.
we tried to network the pc with my others but nothing would work so it is by itself just have to remember to disable norton on start up 🙄

unless the a newer version of troop is out with this glitch fixed, ide say your gonna have to change to XP service pack 1. I am sure thats what we had to do… veryfrustrating because we bought a brand new powerful comp soley for running the grenadier, all fresh and waiting for its arrival… we were beat before we even run a print 😕

derek ours now runs networked to 6 other computers without any probs mate, so there must be a workaround.

to be honest rob i am happy to have it by itself
the headache when we tried to have it networked 😮
the other 3 PCs are networked and its fine. if need be to transfer i burn a CD or use usb pen
the other PCs run the jaguar and Internet access my laptop is on the network so i have that next to the cadet PC
i think i’me paranoid about re installing sign-lab as i am still getting to grips with it and don’t want to lose any preferences i have now did someone say i was paranoid

The way i have ours networked is with 2 seperate nic’s, one dedicated to the Grenadier and the other access all the other pc’s. Like Rob said Troop will not function correctly or at all with service pack 2, unless they have now sorted that.

many thanks guys, sorry for not responding but was away from pc (or had no net access)

I finally got the cadet running, bizarrly I unplugged a 4 hub usb adapter and this solved the problem, think all this has something to do with network adapters which I dont know enough about,

I have a couple of jobs to run tomorrw so hav e left the pc and machine switched on till the orning. Ill callt he supplier and see if they can shed any light.

    cheers

With the same problem as Smedia I found this thread looking for an answer to our problem.

We are using Troop and have recently got a new PC with Service Pack 2, coincidentally our Grenadier wont print from that PC now (port not found error), but will still from an old PC with Windows 2000 on it, as this only has a small memory we cant open the bigger files so havent used it generally to print from the Grenadier and need to get the other one up and running quickly.

We have tried things like disabling the firewalls, opening the port manually, but to no avail.

After seeing on here the problem appeared to be the conflict with SP2 we contacted our engineer at B&P before taking any steps to uninstall it.

B&P say they have no knowledge of there being any problems of this nature caused by SP2 and advised uninstalling it will not solve the problem.

At the moment we are waiting for an alternative solution from them, but with work stacking up I wanted to ask if you guys still think the problem is SP2, cause it sounds like it to me from the previous experiences on here.

Any help will be gratefully received.

    Many thanks
    Steve 😀

I had problems with a portable drive which didn’t like the usb hub, it worked fine when plugged into the usb port direct.

Steve, Have you solved this issue yet? I could give you some quick tests to run which may help, are you fairly PC/network literate?

Smedia I had this problem with our cadet plus when we first installed it.

What I had to do as mentioned below is completely shut down your troop and the cadet disarm Norton and disconnect your windows firewall and Internet connection keeping them disconnected turn on the cadet and your troop software this helped me when sending through jobs.

my cadet is connected through an Ethernet cable which was causing the problem all seems fine now though I still get that error message on the rare occasion though following the instructions above always solves the problems for me.

If the problem persists let me no and I’ll get the exact details from our engineer.

I’ve never experienced a problem with Troop under SP2. Are you guys running Troop V5?

i just found this thread, amazed at some of the replies…

well SP2 (which has now been around for a long time) did have some issues with TCPIP or Firewire connections, but this is pretty much sorted with "unblock" or manually adjusting the firewall settings, we had issues with a network scanner that would block those particurly ports, just need to find what ports you printers operate at and then open the ports, which should be open anyway!

If your Printer is on the same subnet 192.168.1.x on a TCPIP network, then it will be fine, no rubbish from other PC’s will slow it down or anything like that, please make sure you dont use ‘HUB’s and use ‘Switches’, infact I don’t think you can buy Network Hub’s these days. Running it on a second subnet may in principle elimate a worry but to be honest it is very minor and not something an engineer would blink at.

No Norton, McAfee SPAM,Virus, Spyware programs should installed on a dedicated RIP PC, that is complete non-sense and might cause you connection problems to your printer, its just not needed. I would open all customer files on another PC with some kind of virus protection on it.

USB pen is interesting idea, I wont knock that but I would suggest looking at connecting it to your dedicated network. I guess the only problem with that is if someone lost the pen and you needed to get a file out quickly and you also ran out of CD’s

I think that a lot of the anti virus programs now also have a firewall as well
If you don’t set this up right you will not get a connection to some network addresses and as you will also be running DHCP to get addresses automatically then you will get intermittent connection depending on the addresses that the firewall is blocking.

As Dave said put everything on the same subnet 192.168.1.?
Your DHCP server will usually be in a modem if you have Internet and will usually have the address 192.168.1.1 this address needs setting as Internet in the firewall and then set a network range 192.168.1.2 – 192.168.1.254 (or whatever the range in the DHCP server is) as trusted.

Also check your not running more than 1 DHCP server, say if you have a broadband modem and a separate wireless access point, turn off the DHCP server in the access point, it will then get it’s address from the modem

I wouldn’t run a critical computer without some sort of ant virus though.

I use AVG and Zone alarm, if I get any connection issues it usually turns out to be the firewall and not the hardware.

When I received my grenadier, I found it would only print but not cut from Troop, and eventually discovered it didn’t like the network card in the pc that runs it. Plugged it into the other card that is in there (one card was for the printer and one for the network), then it worked fine.

Windows XP Home, SP2. Troop V5, and now Troop V6.
