Ensure you have the latest SPs installed should show as 13.0.0.739 in the ‘about Corel’ tab.
You can try importing the cdr instead of opening, also drag and drop from Explorer (this worked from some problem ai files). Failing that I would save your desktop if customised, close Draw, relaunch with F8 pressed, accept the factory default workspace and then try again.
If you can get into Draw and can run the convert macro you can try converting the cdr to cmx and then importing that. That will strip any styles from the cdr.

I think 667 was the first SP, the second one is readily available but is about 40meg from memory.
Glad you’re sorted, it’s worth remembering the F8 thing it does cure alot of unexplained issues.

Don’t confuse outline with contour in Corel, must dash now but post your problem and I’ll try to sort tomorrow sometime.

Thanks again been using the outline tool then converting outline to object etc takes an age. Use to have corel 8 then version 11 but am so used to using signlab corel got left behind but now with the arrival of our versacamm we have found corel or photoshop have to be used dont want to start a discussion which is best each does certain things better.

Any hints on fades for backgrounds or photos welcomed actually anything really

    cheers Nick

Use the contour tool, it is now curves not straight lines, group objects and then apply contour to do all of them, I have a script somewhere which then enables you to round corner but obviously you could ‘break contour group apart’ and the use Corel’s fillet option. Fades are easy in Corel which bit are you getting stuck on?
