  • can anyone help problem with edge fonts importing

    Hi Everyone,

Yet again as a new user of Signlab I’ve stumbled on a problem.
I’m wanting to print what was an edge font job file on our JV3 for a site board.
We have the old file as a .plt and can import it, but it doesn’t show up correct because the halftone fade defaults to a white to black fade instead of clear to black fade. The letter base should be red, which imports in , but is hidden behind the fade sgements.

    Any clues.

    Hi AL,

Did you want to post the PLT file in the File Swapping Forum for people to look at?

For the white-to-black fade, my first inclination would be something like:

    1. Make note of the white colour in the Job Palette.
    2. In the Shop Palette, click-and-drag the Invisible "colour" and drop it onto the white colour in the Job Palette.
    3. This will perform a global substitution and should give you the clear-to-black fade that you are expecting.

    Does that help?

I can’t add the file to the sharing forum as I’m not a subscribe member (yet). But will try your suggestion.

BTW In relation to my other question yesterday, it pointed me in the right directions. I rendered it as a multi tone bitmap and got the required result.

Good. I’m glad that previous comments helped.

If you’d like, then send the PLT file to (mod-edit) and mark it "ATTN: Rod" to help it get to me. I’ll take a look and offer what I can.

    Cheers,

I’m not having much luck with this option.
    The font itself.
printed white faded halftones onto a red vinyl to acheive highlights and black halfton to achieve the shades on a bevelled font.
If I was doing this in flash or illustrator I’d be looking for a transparency option.

In theory we could use the bevel boss, but would prefer to use the original to keep their work very similar.

The main bit that I’ll focus on is what you say about needing "a clear to black fade."

    1. Select one of the white letter segments.
    2. From the Stroke and Fill Tools flyout, choose Gradient Fill.
    3. In the SmartBar, choose Linear Fill.
    4. Two editing handles will appear about the letter.
    5. From the Shop Palette, drag and drop colours onto the editing handles to apply. Do this to create a gradient from Red-to-Invisible.
    6. In the SmartBar, click the Save Fill button. The gradient fill will be appended to the end of the Shop Palette.

For each of the remaining letter segments, use the gradient fill that was appended to the Shop Palette. It can be applied as if it were a solid fill colour.

Alternatively, you can use the Spot Gradient Fill tool to set a linear fill that goes from 100% black tint to 0%.

    Does that help?

    Thanks.
In theory that technique would work. I Have applied it to a few
Did you recieve the file I emailed through.
If so, you’ll see that there are a lot of segments.
And this is the first of a few repeat customers starting to come through.
If there isn’t a quicker way, I’ll have to keep with it. I was hoping an import option or similar would solve it, maybe I didn’t say that in the first post.

    Thanks again Rod

Yes, I received the files, one being the PLT file with the entire set of objects, and a CDL file that contains just one of the words from the PLT file.

I thought you were dealing with a one-off job, and I didn’t realize this was a frequent issue you are having. I’ve passed the files along to see if possible to retain the fade when importing. Thanks for making this submission.

    Cheers,

    Rod
