  • can anyone help please with welding in signlab?

hey guys, tryed a search but it was coming up with alot of non related stuff.

was just wondering how to i weld text and shapes together in signlab?

my problem is. ive designed a logo in signlab but when it comes to cut it. it cuts the shapes out and the text on ther own (so its cutting over letters etc)

    if that makes sence? lol

any help would be great. allready wasted a ton of vinyl 🙁

Hi Cams, what version of SL are you using? Not too sure what you mean about the errors, can you explain a bit more?

    its version 7

sorry am abit usless at explaining things heh.

    here goes.

if i had 1 shape overlaping some text. sort of to extend the text.

then i go to cut it. it cuts the shape out and the text but it does them seperate and not as one thing.

like say i had the letter L and i extended the L___ so its a tad long.

but when it cuts it is cutting the L then the ___ extended bit so ther ends up being a cut through the L when i want it to be just all one thing.

hope that makes abit more sence lol

i think if you go into your plottor setup …..you will find that your cut by color box is not checked …..its cutting the whole image youve selected ….what no instructions with this copy ? :(…failing that if you want to weld …youll find it under the magnifying glass …left hand column …blue and red circles …having said that my signlabs 4.95..im sure things like that are pretty much the same on your version

    Hi Cams

The weld tool is the two circles on the toolbar on the left (red and blue) go to this and there should be a few different options – the first one I think is the one you are looking for – first you need to highlight the stuff you want welded then click on the option you want.- but get some shapes and letters together and practice with them all – you can get some great effects very quickly with all the weld tools. There is also a brilliant signlab tutorial on here somewhere with reference to vectorising – watch this and you can learn about welding and a host of other stuff,

LOL i feel like an idiot. i remember seeing it in the toolbar and for some reason ive been looking in the top dropdown menus.

Glad you are sorted Cams, don’t forget though that colours can make all the difference to how something welds, ie weld something white & it will all disappear, all one colour and it will become one piece, 2 colours and there will be 2 pieces (or more) with cut-out bits (VERY confusing!)
And I don’t explain well either, so you may be more confused than ever now 😳

ah i think u just answered another problem i was having. how to get rid of inside sections etc. so am guessing if i did a black circle and put a white circle inside it then welded them the cutter would cut a large O instead of just a large circle.

tbh am abit miffed that i cant use photoshop. been using that for countless years and its useless now heh.

akwell half the fun is learning.

If you draw 2 circles, whatever colour & lay them 1 on top of the other & select both they will cut as selected.

If you draw 2 circles, whatever colour & lay them 1 on top of the other & select both they will cut as selected. They don’t HAVE to be welded then.

    Oops, double post!

Or just do Ctrl H make path (combines them) Ctrl J break path

There are so many shortcuts that I have never learnt in SL, and probably never will! One day I may find time to teach myself 😥
