  • can anyone help please with graphic layout?

Posted by payads on February 14, 2005 at 10:30 pm

to cut a long story short 🙄

Heres the graphic I am creating.
as u can see the white area has to be transparent, therefore if i cut indivdual white backing for each box and text the job becomes massive with all that measuring, lining up etc etc.

If it were printed onto clear, reverse print then, is there a printer that will,
    1. print in a oner
    2. spot fill behind the text and boxes only, leaving the clear vinyl well clear.

or am i looking for somthing that dont exist.

I know the edge can do it but it means tiling the job, and client aint wanting it tiled.

Thanks for any help guys and gals.

I’d still say it’s not a problem to do as Rob suggested and get it printed on clear with a contour cut round the clear parts then back it in white where you need to. It’s only a couple of large solid areas of white on the right and for the header/footer etc then you only need to cut the white backings for the icons separately and as the text is black anyway it wont need backing up. Does that make sense ??

You could print top and botom border on the edge, print the icons, and contour cut, they would be in on piece, then al the text could be done in one pice and flood coat the right hand side with blue window tint so it is semi transparant,, just my thoughts,

This is what I mean…. use white backing as shown by the 3 large pink bits plus the little icons and it’s a really easy assembly job to do when your on site. Dont know if you need the thin line on the left but thats easily added if you do – no real registration issues and it should look fine. Just a word of caution though, black text on most glass windows can get lost very easily 😕

    peter, nigel
yes makes sense what ur saying.
Im looking at time for applying and creating graphic.
As your aware it could be installed in minutes if it were in one piece.

if you only have one piece of vinyl to install, why not try and do that, rather than create individual boxes and text lines.

thats what im trying to produce, something that in one piece, walk into shop, walk out of shop 5 mins later, job done.

thanks forr your imputs lads much apprieciated.

….think you are asking too much of the current technology there Frank. As far as I know there isn’t a printer capable of backing a full colour print in white that will print at 2m wide in one piece and contour cut aswell ! Plus why would you want a 4 square metre bedsheet sized piece of vinyl to handle on site – sounds like a nightmare to try and fit to me specially bearing in mind it would be contour cut and taped up too.
Make life easier for yourself and take a few minutes longer over the fitting – I’d say anyway 😉 !!

youv’e always got to push the envelope nigel.

Just my way of thinking, try and do a job as easily and quickly as possible.

will end up doing the way you, rob and nigel suggested.
    So thanks for ur assistance.

    Way I would do it:

Apply the top and bottom blue panels as separate pieces, the light blue in 1 piece, the icons as separate contour cut pieces and the text as cut vinyl. Back all the printed panels with white vinyl. Fit the whole lot in an hour. Why the rush? I’d also be concerned about black lettering onto glass – could end up invisible.

Thought thats what I said andy, but you described it more eloquently 😉

Dunno about the fiting thing soo u should follow the advices above.
But make sure you correct your “Control Panel” text. That might take u to have a second try on fitting! 😉

I’m sure you and all the guys noticed but correct it as soon as you can, happened often to me that a error that as been spoted not corrected straight away and when job goes to print u lately discover that it was the only thing u missed, enough to ruin a great job!

Edit: I’m sure you didn’t finish your job yet, don’t you think u should have diferent icons on the left panel (e.g. Computer case for hardware, Software Box for software…i think it would make a huge diference but that’s just my opinion.

With all due respect mate, have you heard the story about the tortoise and the hare?

Pushing the envelope is one thing, but there are times when this is possibe and times when it is not. Trying to apply a wider sheet than is safe to fit will end up costing you money and more time.

The advice here is very good. You will save a lot of heartache if you follow the experienced sign guys here. I am sure if there was time to save on a job like this, Andy, Nigel or Peter would have tried it out a long time ago.

Hope the finished job works out whatever way you decide.

    Cheers
    Shane
