  • can anyone help please having signlab 7.1 Difficulties?

Posted by Stephanie Peterson on February 19, 2008 at 6:41 pm

Okay I have been ill the last week and a half so my area/job was taken over by someone else whilst I got better. Anyway when I got back I could no longer just click on a cdl file and open up the file in signlab. Now it either opens up in Invisible Patterns Program which doesn’t work as the dongle is in another computer and we only have the one or says F:\PRODUCTION\M\11465-MarionEnergyServices-TruckVisorDecal.CDL is not a valid Win32 application.

So now I have to always open up a blank Signlab and open it through the file menu. It just an extra step I don’t want to have to do anymore. It was much easier/quicker the other way. Does anyone have any idea how I can make it open in Signlab just by clicking on it again?? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the help,

    Steph

I already did that and that is when this message started to appear F:\PRODUCTION\M\11465-MarionEnergyServices-TruckVisorDecal.CDL is not a valid Win32 application rather then open in the Invisible Patterns program.

Right click on the file & go to properties. Check what it says after Opens with: If it’s not Signlab then click the change button & change it to SignLab.

I just checked the properties and it is already Signlab. I checked on about 10 or so different ones and all of them did. I just don’t understand why it just changed all of a sudden and won’t open. ARGH. Thanks for the suggestions though Brain and Ali.

Will it not import. I know thats not the answer you want but if it gets you out of a mess. What has the guy who’s been on the system got to say?

    Karl.

Yeah I can open it by importing and I can open up Signlab and then go file: open and then pick the file. It is just an extra step so I was wondering how to get it back the other way. For now I can just open it this extra step way.

I spoke with him and he has no idea what happened. He said it was working fine for him.

    I’m really confused.

That’s what they all say. If everything you are doing fails I would reinstall the software. Sounds drastic but you could be up and running again in 10 mins. Depends how much machinery is rigged up to it though. Do you run your DC3 from it?

    Hey Stephanie

Have you installed or re-installed any new software? I have had this similar problem in the past that when I installed a new software it changed the default settings for certain file types. Try re-installing Signlab and see if that works, it might refresh the system and make it the default program for opening those files.

    Just a thought.

    Cheers

Warren though only thing that was installed was an update for Firefox. But that happens every couple of weeks and it has never effected it before. Of course the guy who took over my station for a week might have installed something new, I will have to ask him once he gets back from lunch.

I will give re-installing Signlab a try Karl and Warren thanks for the suggestion. I just need to wait until the end of the day. All of our machines use Signlab and only Signlab. Well that is how we set it up so it our own faults if there is a problem with Signlab production comes to a stop pretty much.

I will post after I have tried re-installing to let you know if that works. Hopefully I will get a chance to do it before I go home tonight. Thanks again for the help.

If you’ve got all your machinery linked to signlab If I was in your shoes I’d talk to my gaffer first. You don’t want to get into trouble if everything refuses to start again. 😕

Steph, I wouldn’t re-install unless you have a real problem, its not the install that takes time, but setting all the custom bits as you had them that may take days,
Was your set up for multiple instance? just a thought, if that was changed, then double clicking a file may give problems if only for single signlab,

Have you tried to drag and drop the file? and what happens if you do?

Okay I won’t try reinstalling it then, you bring up a valid point. I don’t want cause more problems.

The Multiple Instance is checked, that was one of the first things I tried when I couldn’t open a file.

If I drag and then drop the file into a signlab that was already opened with something else in it it loads just fine. But if I drop it just on the Signlab icon on my desktop it says it !Cannot Open File. I actually didn’t realize I could do that. Thanks for that handy little piece information.
