    Hi

I have had a couple of customers ask me to produce performance sticker stacks for custom cars. They are a list of company names that produce performance parts and accessories and they place them on car doors or body panels.

Pretty easy to do but where do I stand with the copyright issues.

I see plenty of companies offering these some place a disclaimer saying that the buyer must have permission from the companies involved others don,t have any disclaimers at all .

I have contacted one of the companies involved and they are happy for me to create stickers another company has not replied at all.

Just don’t want to get into a world of problems if one of these vehicles ends up in a magazine somewhere.

I know of someone who used the london underground logo without permission and he was contacted directly, they didn’t go near the printing company.

However, It might be worth contacting a trademark solicitor and asking if there is some kind of standardised document that exists.

unless you have permission from the company to recreate their logo, you have no rights to do so at all.
But having said that, are they going to be bothered to track you down over a job that cost a few quid and especially if it is promoting them.
Legally its a no no, but if you put it to a vote I bet every signmaker on here has recreated a logo without permission at sometime in their illustrious careers.

ooh, i resemble that remark!! :noeveil:

i do a lot of work for a local hi-performance tuning place, i don’t think there are many logo’s i haven’t redrawn for him at one time or another. at the end of the day, he gets the stickers free in with all the parts he buys, just not enough of them to do all the race cars he looks after.
