can anyone help me import illustrator CS2 files please?
Posted by Stuart John Halliday on June 1, 2006 at 8:29 amWhen importing a Illustrator CS2 document containing vector data which is larger than document size. The vector data imports as a clipping group within a box which is the same size as the original document size.I can’t seem to edit or release clipping group.Am I missing something simple?

ok Stuart i don’t use sign lab but is there an option to expand the image in signlab like on the top menu cos if its a vector if u save it as eps or ai or wmf it should stay as a vector format. it could be only grouped or something . Have a look in the top menu bar if u have an option for (OBJECT) expand or UNGROUP or OUTLINE maybe . Let me know how u go

Was expecting to be able to ungroup like you said.
Expecting to find release commands like in Illustrator / Freehand / Flexisign.
I can get round by making my document size larger before importing.
Trying to avoid this action as I have a load of files that need converting.
Just experimenting in converting illustrator files into a GC3 format. Hopefully saving time on current conversion process.
Current Conversion process:
Illustrator CS (open and resave as v3)
Illustrator V3 (open in Flexisign)
Flexisign (save as DXF)
DXF (convert to GC3)Long winded!

Stuart, I assume you have tried going to "arrange, clipping & clipping clear" rather than just trying to ungroup?

Kev,Have tried to create from Illustrator.Seems to contain coding that will not convert to a compatible GC3 file.Only acceptable DXF conversion so far has come from Flexisign.

Brian,Thank you, works this time.I had tried on other files and this hasn’t worked.Have to see how I get on.

- The results will vary based on the original design and what the originating application does when saving/exporting.
- After importing into SignLab, check the top-left corner to see whether it has been loaded as a Group object, or as a Clip Group.
- If it is a Group, then perform Layout menu >> Ungroup.
- If it is a Clip Group, then perform Arrange menu >> Clipping >> Clipping Clear.
- Sometimes these groups can get nested, which means you have a clip group within a clip group, in which case perform Clipping Clear twice.
Hope that helps,
Rod
