  • can anyone help me cut shape out with number in it?

Posted by Adele Brennan on May 24, 2008 at 4:51 pm

I am trying to create a simple shape ie square or circle with number in middle.

Using frosted vinyl for shape with cut out of number in middle.

I want 1 mm gap between number and frosted edge.

    Any help appreciated

    Thanks

Hi Adele two ways:- make your shape eg. circle in a dark colour and make another circle smaller in white on the inside of your first circle centre them up and weld you will be left with an out line, another way is select transform and make an inline in your circle to the required size.

Adele do your number first of all in a colour you can see…..go to outlines …choose your width of line…..go back to your number put the arrow on it and then change it to white and weld

should be left with just your outline…im better at doing it than telling you how wouldnt get a job writing instructions anyway 😀 😀 😳

Try applying it wet – but don’t tell Rob I told you to do it this way 😕

Excuse my ignorance here…do you mean dip in water wet?

Adele…..probably the least messiest way of applying wet is to use a spray bottle (garden centres etc…etc..)

Fill the bottle up and put a couple of drops of washing up liquid in and give it a bit of a shake.

spray the substrate with the soapy water before applying the vinyl making sure you have no dry spots………….using the solution gives you time to reposition the vinyl if needs be…..but the main advantage is that it allows you to sgueegee all the water out leaving it bubble free

Will this not remove stickiness from the vinyl??

Applying it wet wont remove the adhesive. but you do need to expel the water from below it as much as possible, then allow a long period of time for the water residue to dry out. it is much easier to apply the vinyl using this method but i personally frown upon it, but thats me for you. :lol1:
at the end of the day you have to do what gets the job done and if the only way is wet, then so be it. that said, i would rather pay for rapid-tac 2 application fluid than use soapy water.

or overlay from cherwell or johnsons baby shampoo 1 ish drops in a litre of water ( and if it goes in your eye it won’t make you cry 😀 ) but dry is the way to go, it’s just patience and practice once you do it, it will also save lot’s of time. 😎
