can anyone explain why my printing is ‘off-set’ please?
Posted by Ben.Dexter on November 10, 2007 at 11:02 pmHi,
been to have a play with the printer today,i loaded up corel draw, and open a template (EPS file),I then simply sent it to print and it was as if the printer was trying to print to the far right,so only have the image was actually on the media…
as your probably aware I’m as new as can be to printing, could somebody shed some light on this please?
Thankyou,

another thing that happend is after re trying to print this template, the printer just fed out the vinyl…and didn’t start printing at all?
the machine is a Roland SP-300v,and the owner usualy uses easi sign for his work,so i’m wondering if the printer is communucatiing properly with Corel Draw?

Had a similar thing happen to me a while ago – just after I had upgraded to Corel X3 – spent hours mucking around without success so in desperation redid the file in Corel 12 and it worked fine. I am still using X3 because it is better, but when I have the odd strange thing happen I save as corel 12 and export out of there – problem sorted. Its got me baffled and my techo too – he is off to Aus on a Roland techo update course shortly and is taking all the info with him…so maybe we will have an answer soon
Hope this helps 😕

Hi,
thanks for that, yeah i’m using X3 too,I will save as v12 and see how that goes,
Thanks again![/u]

Have a look and see if its set bounding box to page, try setting it to object see if the helps. is on the advanced tab when you save to EPS.
-
I’ve had this problem before…I didn’t know you could change that setting Nick…..that could be very usefull……I’ve always worked a round it by changing the page size to a couple of mil bigger than the job…then centering the job to the page
-
Do ensure you have the latest build of Corel X3 – under help – about – your version should be 13.0.0.739.
Tip for centering objects to page – select object and press p multi pbjects should be grouped first or they will all end up on top of each other.

Alan DMine isn’t that version Alan…..its 576…..how do I get the latest?
Sorry for the temporary hijack.

Do you have the "Program update" at the top of > start > program update. > program ? should install with X3, run that and it should update it all mate.
-
Cheers Nick, its installing as I type. As you may have noticed I ‘struggle’ when it comes to computers and technology….do you happen to know of a site, book etc that gives a good grounding in computers…..I know some things and am able to fix a lot of stuff….but it has all been gained by firefighting, would love to know the basics and build on that…if you know what I mean. 😀

It has only updated to 667 😮 am I missing something?

There have been 2 patches for X3 try http://www.corel.com and follow links for X3 support and downloads. 2nd patch weighs in at about 40 meg

Does anyone else do this?
Should there not be a RIP, such as Versaworks, involved?

I only run PDF’s from Corel draw… I gave up using EPS years ago
Using Print to PS is another way of printing, but we don’t use it but many lithos do
-
Printing to ps can be very effective. Publish to PDF in Corel will not allow step and repeat only one up, step and repeat will need to be done at RIP end as normal practice. To make use of Corel’s print preview and imposition features you can either print to Acrobat (full version or similar) or print to the ‘device independent postscript driver’ this will produce a ps file for ripping or importing in another programme. If you use this option (or print to any postscript printer) clicking OFF the option to download postscript fonts and convert TT to Type 1 (found under the postscritp tab) will convert fonts to curves at print time and may be the safest bet if sending a file to others.

Hi,
Ok i been playing with the machine again,I realised it woulden’t print last time because it was because for some reason Corel was telling it to print in the middle of the vinyl,so i’m just having trouble setting the artwork to print straight away…as close to the edge as possible…if you understand?
I set the artwork to the bottom of the page, and then went into ‘print preview’ and set it to the bottom of the page their..but when sending it to print it still started feeding of vinyl slowly…
so my question is,how do i setup the artwork or page to print at the edge of the vinyl?
-
I would look again at Nick’s answer. If you are printing directly to the printer rather than ripping an eps look at the settings under the layout tab.

Hi,
I am simply opening a CDR file (saved as V12) moving the artwork to the bottom of the page in Corel, and then hitting print…as simple as that…and the machine start to slowly feed the media thru,I think if i left it long enough it would eventualy print somewhere, but where I have no idea…so I think it’s just a simple layout issue.
Thankyou,
-
What RIP are you using – or are you simply using the windows print driver?
-
In Corel, print – layout – reposition images to – default is as document try one of the other settings and see if it makes a difference.

thanks Alan,
I will give that a shot, also I’m guessing VersaWorks is our RIP?
-
I don’t understand why you do not know whether Versaworks is your RIP. It doesn’t run silently in the background. You have to run it, select the profile, set parameters etc.
I think you need to state exactly what you do to print a job, step by step. Then any advice can be offered based on what is actually happening.
My guess is that you are not running a RIP at all but are trying to print directly from Corel via the windows driver. Perhaps there was something lacking in the installation made by your supplier but I’ve never heard of anyone running a wide format printer this way, which is why I asked if anyone else had in my earlier post.

Hi Peter,
Sorry for the confusion,If i try to print from corel then yes i get the VersaWorks box up,but if I print from Easy Sign then the VersaWorks box never shows,I think I explained earlier all i do is open the file in Corel, move the artwork to the bottom of the page, hit print, select the Roland SP-300V,the VersaWorks box comes up,and then it sets of to print,or it tries to print…
Thanks

I tried what you are doing. I don’t get Versaworks up automatically but the file is in Versaworks when it is loaded. At this point I would be able to set all the relevant printing parameters and print.
I don’t understand why you move to the bottom of the page. Nor can I see how you would set the full width value for the vinyl if your setup prints automatically.
Why don’t you try the "conventional" way and output to an eps file from corel and load that into Versaworks. You will have full control over what you are doing and can then get the full guidance from the help files.
