  • can anyone advise with transparent background issue?

Posted by Alex Pirozek on May 2, 2008 at 9:57 am

Using Corel X3, Im trying to export a logo with a transparent background for a web page I’m creating in FrontPage. I need some help on this issue as I normally export the logo with a box around it using the correct page colour, however this now seems to put a fine white line around the box and shows up when viewing in IE6 or so (no hairlines in the design). When I export to a PNG file I can make the background transparent so all i have is the text and design with no problem, it views without a background OK in Photo Editor and all other photo programs as i want it, but when I insert it in to FrontPage as a picture for a banner logo it puts it back on a white box again.
There must be a simple solution but I can’t find how to do it and seem to be going around in circles.
Any help would be greatly received

    Alex.

    Hi Alex

I know what you mean but don’t know what causes it.

Open the file in Paint and change the page size slightly or crop it to lose just the edge then save. If I recall it then looses the thin hair that appears.

Prob a better work around but it’s worked for me before.

Alex, in Front Page select the image properties and check that there is a 0 (zero) in the borderline box (not left blank). Just a thought…

Thanks for your suggestion Tim, your right cropping the edge off afterwards does work. Ill also try and set a zero in the borderline when i get in later.
If i wanted a true transparent background to import in to frontpage how would i do it, is it possible or do i need to select the background colour to match my page or banner colour?
My file shows no background with the usual chequered squares in photo editors etc but when i insert the same file into frontpage it appears on a white background which i think is the designs border?

I seem to remember this being discussed and I think it something to do with anti alaising, cropping I think is the best solution.

What about save it in gif format and select the part to be transparent when saving for the web?
