Need a little help, I am thinking of exchanging our VS540 running CMYKLSLM + White + metallic for an XC540MT running CMYK + White + white.

We have found that we don’t get a lot of call for metallic but reasonable call (expading) for white.

So we are considering swopping the VS540 in for the speed (almost double) of the XC540 and to keep white.

I know if I have the choice a VS in double CMYK + white would be perfect but sadly this is not an option, I am worried that going for the XC540 bearing in mind we sell a lot of posters / stickers ect we would be losing the solid print of the extra dot size head from the VS540.

I do not want to lose any quality as I was hoping that if we can run high quality on the XC540 that it would be the equivalent of the VS at high quality but at a faster speed.

well, just going from what i have learnt recently…

the VS range of printers use the gold plated DX6 head, where all the ink goes into one head, if there is a problem then that head gets replaced.

The XC is quicker but that is due to it’s head configuration, however it is based on the DX4 head, thats the single head per colour that we all seen for years, so the technology is over 10 years old.

I have a problem with Roland currently, the VS in my opinion is very slow compared to the Epson, it should be within the same speed but it isn’t.

I am staggered how slow the VS is, but dual CMYK doubles it performance and imo marginal loss in gamut as I have seen it and compared results from both printers, you get a small dotty affect where the colour is not possible, as the droplet size is 3.?pl, they hardly show up and also do you really need white?
