  • can anyone advise me on lumps in magnetics?

Posted by Shaun Harris on September 3, 2009 at 3:13 pm

I have had a customer bring back some magnetics with an inch long lump in each one, he says they push out when warm but reappear.
I have laminated the magnetics black and added text so not sure if that could be causing it.

I’ve not had a problem with this roll before even when laminated.

    Any ideas?

Is the lump the whole sheet thickness or is it just possibly where the white PVC top has de-laminated from the mag base layer?

It’s the whole thickness as though there is something behind the magnetic

    Have you pierced the bubble?

…a little while back we had the same issue and water came out of the bubble (as they had been fitted dry this can only have come about in the manufacturing of the white faced magnetic)

we did get replacement material but no acknowledgment of a manufacturing fault.

Shaun, your not actually suppose to floodcoat the white magnetic material. Don’t know if that has anything to do with your problem. I buy my magnetic rolls in plain because I have been asked a lot to do them different colours.

Here are some pictures of the bumps/bulges in the magnetic

Never seen that before but may be worth sticking the to a heater to soften them up a bit and see if it has any effect.

That looks like a pressure mark…how is the customer storing the material when not on the vehicle?
