  • can a regular printer, be used for sticker vinyl?

Hi could any one help me. I’ve some how ended up been volunteered to make stickers for some body, but I’m more than a bit concerned as i’ve not got the first clue on how to go about this! I’m not sure its even possible with the equipment i’ve got – a graphtec plotter and a pretty much run of the mill Canon pixma ip 5000! I suppose if there’s some sort of sticker vinyl out there that accepts ink from a regular printer then thats my only hope?
Any advice would be brilliant! Thankyou, Mark.

    Hi,
You can print on special microporus vinyl with pigment inks, but they are really only suitable for indoor use or very shot term outdoor use.

You would need a cutter with an "eye" – so that it can tell where to cut your stickers.

    Hope that helps

Mark how complex and what size are your stickers?? if they are not complex you could always cut them out of vinyl

Mark, we do lots of name stickers some with a simple logo. we just use cheap vinyl get the plotter to cut the background shape generally on white, then cut the name etc weed everything then proceed as normal. we started doing them when we relocated and business was slow. now we do them because we don’t want to let the customer down. they are a pain to do and we make very little on the jobs. but it all helps the bank account.
    cheers Mike

    thanks for the kind replies.
I want the stickers to be 2 or 3 different colours, which is why i think overlaying vinyl might be a real pain! Sticker size only needs to be small 3" x 4" tops.
    Thank you again, Mark.
