Business Insurance?
Posted by Paul Rollason on February 24, 2005 at 9:34 amWe have been turned down by several insurancs compenies on the grounds that a large part of our buiness is printing t-shirts.
When i asked them to explain this they said "it’s because on the chemicals used in t-shirt printing."
Even though I explained that we do not screen print, we do transfer printing they said. "er, we don’t cover any type of t-shirt printing."
What the…… (chat.)

Get yourself a lockable steel fire resistant cabinet and store your flammables , chemicals etc (no matter that they are NOT flammable) in it and I’m sure insurance wont be a problem.
We have big drums of solvents like benziene and thinners and meths here and we get insurance provided they are stored off premises (we have a little lean-to shed for them) -
Hi Paul
We do t-shirt printing with clothing film from Victory. I take it from what you have said, is that you buy in/print the transfer and then heat press on to the garment.
We don’t have any problems with our insurance company. We are with Allianz Cornhill. Got ours through a broker, who came out and saw us and our business.
If you would like our broker details I’ll e-mail them over and you could have a talk to them.
Hope this helps
Regards

Lee, could you let me know, as my insurance is due as well.

Our insurance didnt get refused, but went through the roof, and was recomm to use The National Farmers Union
Now although that sounds odd, but try them. The quote they gave us was far cheaper than anyone else i tried. If you need help i can give you the number, but prob will be a more local number to you that you will need.

We use NFU! Been with them since last March, came up with almost 50% cheaper price than the company we had been using for the last 5 years. Also with all this talk about cold calling and the annoyance of most of it, I got to know about them through a cold call from them! I must of been in a patient mood to have given them time to talk and offer, glad I did though

just an update on this thread.
I am now going to sing the praises of the NATIONAL FARMERS UNION.
As you all no i am treating myself to a new van (arrives tomorrow) as i am keeping my old van as well i fall into that old trap of “arrrrrr you wont have any no claims bonus on your new van”
My usual agent quoted me a whopping £1,478 premium. After phoning NFU & discussing the fact that between my wife & I we will have 4 vans & 1 car, all under the same umbrella business, both of us have public liability/ other insurances, they came back next day firstly with a quote of £750 for the new van, but also lower quotes for the other vans & pub liability.
When the lady agent came to visit me next day with the cover note for new van she appologised for miss quoting me for the new van, it should be £500 not £750. The NFU are giving me & 50% introductory no claims discount.
Not counting the hundreds of £s savings on all the other vehicle & pub liabilities It gives me an initial saving nearly £1,000 just on new van!!!!!!!!All I can say is Carrie a BIG THANKS for the link & initial post concerning the N.F.U. you must have saved me just over £2,000 this year alone.
Thanks also to Vinny & Rising,

great news john!! 😛
i knew i forgot to do something last week!! 😛
will have to phone them in the morning 😉thanks nik

That’s good stuff LJ. I also had the old 2 vehicle/1 no claims problem recently. Basically, I explained that I wanted a good price and they gave me it!
Coincidentally, the NFU HQ is at the end of my street. I didn’t say it was an interesting fact, did I?

What can I say Nik, well worth a phone call……..
or in big g case well worth a quick walk.

Customer! one of two branches, the other being close to me.
I don’t live that far from you really, we live near Woburn between jcn 12 and 13 on the M1 but in a small village. The office is 20 odd miles down in Harpenden.Who was your ex… oh that big company round the back?

Hi all
Just recieved an e-mail from NFU turning us down for insurance on the grounds that we have been trading for under three years. 😕
Oh well, had a good quote from the AA so may go with them or wait to see what robs contact comes up with.

Thats a bit strange Paul … we were a brand new company when we got our insurances with them and even now we are only just coming up to our third year of trading 😕 Must have changed their terms or something I guess?? Pitty as they do offer some good rates.
😀

Hi Carrie
This is a direct quote from their e-mail
"The NFU Mutual have very strict criteria when it comes to providing
quotations for new business insurance and one of the criteria is that the
business must have been in operation for at least 3 years."I dunno what I’m doing wrong

I’m trying to get a good quote for van and business it taking up the whole day, not that I’m in a hurry to try and fit a van outside mind you. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
NFU are a bit dearer than the AA for the van but the service did seem good.
Still waiting on NFU getting back with business insurance.
