  • Build up letters on a flex face??

Posted by Craig Thompson on June 29, 2021 at 9:36 am

Morning all, hope all is well.

I have an enquiry where a customer wants built up letters onto a flex face sign? I have seen this done but have no idea ho and our flex supplier has no idea also but said it can be done.

Anyone done this or have a clue how??

    Thanks all 😀

I have done it a few times in the past but the company I used is no longer trading.

it is straightforward enough though. what you want is an area/section within the flex face sign to be risen flush with the face skin.
so if the box is 100mm deep, there will be a raised section behind the area that the letters are fitted, elevated 100mm for the letters to be fitted onto.

if the sign box is back-illuminated, there will have to be aluminium flat letters to hold the letter on the face or you will get shadows.

whoever you are buying for should understand what you are asking for as it’s a pretty common request. they may also have better methods to do it than what I have suggested, but that’s how we did ours.

I was thinking that was the way but worried that putting holes in a tensioned banner may cause issues?

To be honest Craig, I thought the same back when we did the first one, but there has never been any issues, ever, and we have installed a good few across the UK now.

The company I used for the elevated section was “Signbase UK”, which no longer trade, but they were just using the flex-face system from SignComp.
I still use the same flex face system which you can buy from a list of UK suppliers, listed on SignComps “partners page” on their website. However, I can’t see how it cannot be used on any other flex-face sign system.

    Cheers for this Rob.

We use Nova aluminium as just down the road in Bristol – they do the sign comp but also there own that is less fiddly with the plastic clips.
