Browsing .ai and .eps files ?
Posted by Chris Whitehead on July 12, 2006 at 12:22 pmAnyone know of any simple software that will allow me to view thumbnails of .ai files and .eps ones please?
It would just save me a lot of time and post it notes stuck everywhere…
Thanks…

Cheewoo vary view is another one, comes on a 30 session free trial(or at least my version did, not sure where I got it though, sorry).

I downloaded a trial of Thumbplus. I installed and uninstalled it straight away. It did not show any of my eps files of ai’s.
I’ll stick with my Portfolio 6 thanks -
Thumbs plus didn’t work for me either. I think part of the problem is that some of my files don’t have thumbnails saved within them? PaintshopPro 10 seems to work with lot’s of my files….

Somebody on here suggested XnVeiw which is a free download, but I couldn’t get it to view ai’s.

the thing is… there is quite a few variations of AI/EPS now… the later version of AI is acutally formatted as a PDF, so we are relying on programs saving a thumbnail with the files when we save.
Make sure u have downloading Aodbe Reader 7, that helps as it thumbnails PDF’s.
If it is a 5mb AI/EPS then it will take ages to raster the thumbnail and really would need a top quality program to get it right. I did once write a routine that took the corel file and exported it to a database as a 200pixel wide JPEG.

Just thought i would add to this, after extensive research last night and farting around with some pretty useless programs, including XNveiw etc etc. I had a brain wave, and right under my nose on the pC i opened photoshop and then adobe bridge… guess what….? I could view eps thumbnails all the time in bridge!
DOH!

I was gonna say adobe bridge too. I got it in a trial adobe cs4, after 30 days the cs4 stopped working but bridge remained 🙂
