  • Bridge height clearance signs

    Hi All

From what I have read there is some controversy regarding wording for these types of signs. Has anybody done any Minimum / Maximum height clearance signs to hang under bridges etc?

Do you state "minimum height" or "Maximum Height" ?

If the height is 2230mm what will the dimension need to be that are stated on the sign? I believe you have to allow a certain amount of "extra" space so in this case say less 50mm, so height would be 2.18m or 7′ (or both)

who knows, anybody? want to share 🙄 :lol1:

It’s for a private estate with an archway drive through access so not on public roads.

    cheers

you need to determine the maximum height for the width of the vehicle with an arch, and mark the position where the vehicle will pass under the centre at that height
I dont know what clearance is standard, but if its on a private estatem I would err on the safe side and allow 100mm less than the actual height,

It needs to be a wide swinging panel and yes as Peter says will be hanging at the lowest point of the arch which will be the side points at the top of the upright brickwork.

I have this height which is 2230mm but need to know if it should read "Minimum Clearance" or Maximum Clearance"? I’m not sure 100mm will be necessary as it is actually higher due to the arch. I’m not sure it will make a huge difference but thought I would ask.

    cheers

Warren just say height limit, (xx) then no confusion with max and min

Back to your original question Warren – I believe it should phrased "maximum height" – anything else is ambiguous
