After a recent debate about creativity!!!!!!!!!

Can anyone recomend books or videos that would be helpful in designing/layout of signs, the do`s & Dont`s of putting text together.etc.

I have a video, which I bought when starting out. helps with application etc.

Perhaps we can set up a liberary, where we can borrow each others books/videos. etc.

I feel this would help 75% of people on this board(myself included) as most are just starting out or self taught

Adrian, listed a book, in an earlier thread,(which has now been deleted (!) )

Most seem to be from the USA. is there any obtainable from here?

Got Mikes CD before anyone says.

Give AS Handover a call mate and ask for a catalogue 020 7359 4696, they sell almost all of the US ones, the first one I’d buy is Mastering Layout by Mike Stevens then anything by Gary Anderson, and a subscription to Signcraft too.

    Like Steve says 🙂

In AS Handovers catalogue they have a listing of many books and some description, there are books by Bill Stewart (english) called Signwork, there is a book produced by ST Publications called Commercial Sign Techniques.

Signcraft do a series of their own books on truck lettering, etc, Gary Andersons are published there, and I am a great fan of his.

AJ Lewery has done 3 books Flowers afloat, Signwritten Art and Popular Art all to do with this business.

Stanley Chews Pub Signs by John Martin, then there are great books on Faux finishes.

All depends on what you want to do. I have spent fortunes on books but I love them. ST Publications do several pictorial photographic books called Sign design gallery.

As Steve and Henry have said:

Handovers are the place to go

They have masses of books from traditional signwriting, gilding, layouts
going onto ragging, graining, distressing and more. Not only that they have all the speciality paints and finishes along with ranges of brushes.

They used to be in the ‘village’ at Highgate, London but they have moved just around the corner to me in Highbury.

They also have a certain selection of videos!
