no idea mate, bombproof that stuff!

does it not peel off? i’m guessing it works by holding glass together in the event of an explosion rather than stopping the glass blowing in all together? 😕

I was due to just apply window graphics but client and designer have decided bomb film in poor state and should be replaced also so going a little blind to strip and replace 😕

The main thing to do when removing bomb blast films is to try and make sure you use a new blade as often as required in the scraper and try to ensure you get right behind the film and not just the top lair / scratchcoat.

Try to ensure you get all the film / layers at once.

Usually better to remove from top and to pull / scrape down so you have maximum purchase to help removal.

Usually plenty of effing and blinding required too.

Cut the film into vertical strips Colin. Then you only have to deal with small manageable pieces at a time. Make sure you cut with a very fresh sharp knife each time you cut a strip.

    Lee’s correct

Sorry meant to say, cut into 8 inch strips vertically and start at the top but always ensure you use a brand new tip / blade with each cut.

Well job done thought I would let you know how we did it

    1) Scrape film coating away from glue layer with 6inch scraper (pretty easy)

    2) Wash window down with Soapy water and scrape glue off window not so easy but ok

    3) clean up with meths to get spotless window

Took about 1.5 hours for a 3m x 2m window so not too bad

Makes a big difference when you get right behind the film rather than it coming away in layers.

    Well done

that’s good going! i remember spending about 4hrs doing a similar job with nasty cheap vinyl which had been baked on to south facing windows for 8yrs, was like scraping dry emulsion paint off!

    Be prepared for sore fingers

    I would price per hour.

I looked at a job in Bristol 12 windows 4’x4′ I caught hold of a corner and it peeled off very easily, I thought this will be easy but as it had to be replaced by a coloured vinyl I thought that would be the time consuming part and put a decent price in. It turned out that unfortunately I had peeled off the only piece that was easy to remove. It took 2 of us 2 days to remove the rest of the windows and put the coloured vinyl on.
