    Hello,

If the version of VersaWorks I got with my recent BN-20 doesn’t have any perforation cut settings, do I assume that the machine doesn’t have a perf cut feature?

I get the feeling that perfcut isn’t really a main function of these machines?

    Thanks for any advice.

    Hi Chris

It does work for BN-20 – You have to set up the PerfCutContour as a spot colour and name it as such (specific Capitalisation) in pallette (in Corel X5 for me) then when you bring file into versaworks it recognises it as such and you can meke the settings as required – length of perf/pressure etc – under ‘Cut Controls’ – a new section for ‘perforated cut controls’ will now be showing. (we’re on Versaworks 5.1.1)

Hope this helps – best get some spare cutting strips for early testing – and cost into quoted jobs! 😉

    Many thanks for that Hugh.

I take your point regarding the cutting strips.

    Hi,

I know in Adobe illustrator we can look up the directory files for Versaworks and within the folder swatches is a swatch that we import in illustrator and it has all the colours set for per cut, white ink, metallic etc.

I know this for a XR 640 and XC540 not sure if its the same for the BN

    Many Thanks

    James

    Hi James,

I’ve got the ContourCut and White swatches for Illustrator.

I’ll try Hugh’s advice, and see if my VersaWorks recognises it.

I’m a bit iffy about using my new ‘Harry’ smart knives to cut through backing paper though.

The only reason I’m considering this, is because of the thing about shaped stickers that are perceived to be a higher quality product, if they look like old die cut stickers. The reality is that the end result is exactly the same.

    Chris
