Has anyone else used one of these heatpresses from BMS? Ive got a 15" Adkins Press for everyday use, but wanted something smaller for smaller items so me and the wife could both work together. First thing I noticed is that the temperature is in Fahrenheit not Celsius like every other item I use. I bought a laser thermometer to check it and its out by about 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Also with the standard plate there is nowhere near enough negative adjustment for the pressure, if I wind the pressure right off its still like a Heavy setting on my Adkins.

Also it doesnt seem to have a countdown timer, it has a buzzer but im not sure that is working either!

Also ive noticed the blue paint is blistering after only a few uses (maybe due to the temperature variations) and after my first use the bottom pad was left scorched.

Not the best of starts, but ive emailed them and see what they come back with, hopefully im doing something wrong, but im 99% certain im not.

Ive been using heat presses for about 5 months now, im no expert but im definitely not a novice so I know that somethings not right.

Anyone else had any dealings with this kind of press?

    Hi Paul,
I’m not familiar with this press but if the platen is bare aluminium (not black coated) the laser is reflected and will not give a true temperature reading.

    just a thought

Thanks for that, the platen is bare aluminium so that may be the issue. Also the extra platens they send out have the same spongy surface as the bottom one, is this right as I thought the top platen always had to be solid.

The Press table and its replacements, in my experience, will always have a sponge surface to allow even pressure.

To get a realistic temperature reading, try sticking a couple of pieces of heat tape on top of one another onto the surface of the heat platen, this will make the surface less reflective.
