  • Blue Avery felt pro squeegees/recommend other squeegees?

Posted by Reza Faezi on August 18, 2015 at 11:42 am

    Hi everyone,

we have used theses blue Avery felt pro squeegees for years, always seemed to last well until about a year ago. They changed the felt to a thinner, smoother material and its double skinned (with 2 layers), which initially i thought was great at the time, however after using it for a couple of weeks (as most of you will know), the first layer wears down really fast and once that gone the second layer doesn’t even last half as long as the first layer did. Basically i am going through these newer squeegees twice as fast as the old ones. Has anyone else noticed this? Does anyone have any recommendations on any other squeegee?

    Thanks in advance

    Reza

3M gold PA-1 is my preferred one.

Watch out as there are loads of counterfeit squeegees going about for the major brands if you source from unknown sources…poor quality Chinese copies that initially LOOK right but are rubbish on closer inspection / use.

I’ve had the same problem with these and I’m buying from a reputable sign supply company. Basically I’ve got old Avery squeegees that are still in better nick than the new ones.
And no I’ve not found a good replacement yet.

These are my favourite squeegees and are no where what they used to be…. mind you what is these days.
    I cant suggest a repalcement

3m gold squeegees dont last as long, scalpel blades dont stay as sharp for as long as they used to.

while we are at it have you seen the size of Milkyways now, I think a finger of fudge is bigger…..

it seems the price goes up and size and quality goes down. :shake:

i have noticed the same over the last few months.
i bought a bag of replacement felt strips with an adhesive back from Sign & Digital in Ireland. dont fit 100% but they do the trick.

Oracal do a felt squeegee that’s pretty good, IMO.

A tip someone gave me but I’ve not acted on it yet was to use cut down pieces of an old fleece or buy a cheap kids fleece from somewhere like Dunn & Co or Matalan.

Replacement strips from Sign + Digital Ireland also, we use them on gold squeeges. Don’t last as long as original blue Avery, but not bad.

Buy some Velcro strips in the pound shop and stick the soft side to the squeegee. Sticks like the proverbial and lasts much much longer than felt.

I went to a local pool table manufacture
And got some off cuts off the table felt
Still using it 4 yrs later
