black gerber foils, anyone had problems???
just had to get hold of spandex and complain, as the black foil i’m using has very fine spot marks in it all over the place! so when i go to print black it doesn’t print well!! so i end up having to do the job again! has anyone else had any simular problems with these foils. spandex are sending me out a replacement in all fairness! just woundered if this is a regular thing with these foils!?!?!?

I only use the gerber foils.
Did you know you can print in CMY and it looks just as good, if not better than CMYK. You set it up in GSplot and it figures out how to print it without black. I never use black now unless it’s for a spot color. Open up the print options in GSplot, uncheck the box that says “Auto select color management” (or something like that, I don’t have the program in front of me), then click on the drop down list and select “CMY GerberTone Photo” or something similar that is CMY only. you can’t set it as a preference, so you will have to do this every time you print. After a coulpe of times you will remember to do it. Less foil used, less time on your print head, faster printing. Win, Win, Win.

Are you sure its the foils and not the vinyl – had plenty of problems with that in the past

hi marek no i didn’t know that(lots to learn!!) i’m using gerber foils also, and mainly print in spot not process. the process colours aren’t as vivid and as i do alot of race bikes etc they need to be 100% spot on!
martin, the vinyl is fine, when i print say a muli coloured image , all the other colours are pretty spot on, just the black is terrable eveytime i use it. fair play spandex have sent me out a new one so should get that this evening(afternoon spanish time!!). its always the black. i’m pretty carefull about making sure the vinyl is clean and free from dust! maybe it was a faulty foil(try saying that 3 times fast when you’ve been on the beer!!)

i’ve had that problem once, it’s just a mistake in the foil, when you take the foil out of the cartridge and lay it out it looks like a little cloud or spots all over the place that repeats itself every 40 cm or so, it seems that there isn’t any (or at least enough) resin on the carier so it can’t print black where there isn’t any.
just “retour” it, as you have done, and it’s done, it’s a foil problem, after you’ve gotten the new rol your problems are over.

hi dennis, yes i got a replacement from spandex today so i will try that and hopefully that will be the problem solved.
