As far as i can see the only way to convert jpeg or bitmap files to dxf it’s to vectorise it, either by hand or using a program like Corel Trace or Adobe Streamline and then convert it to dxf as it is a native type file for CAD programs.

Not sure if i said everything as i wished but here it goes.

    Hi Boab,

not as far as I’m aware…….you would need to vectorise it…..if anyone knew any different I would be very interested…….

    Hi Boab

Depends what software your using, most modern cad packages have raster image capabilities but they usually xref the image file so your not gaining anything.
Why do you want to save them as dxf anyway? not many people can view dxf’s and you’ll not get anymore compression in the dxf format.

I am guessing that you need a dxf file for cnc routing
This is something I have wanted to be able to do for years…….

It might save you some time to know that I have not succeeded either
A jpg or a bmp is a flat graphic image and dxf files are lines and nodes
you can vectorise the file in programmes like sign lab but the quality would not reproduce to any acceptable level for a routed piece.

    Back to the tracing then………………
