When you guys are part wrapping a vehicle in a single colour, say maybe part of a layout requires the bottom half of a rear qtr panel on a van to be done at a 45 degree angle in a solid colour, if you used a wrap vinyl for the job would you have that laminated or is it mainly printed material the gets laminated ?

I’m looking to get some vinyl to play with on my own van, vw transporter, just to try it out.

I have used oracal 751 but I dont really like it, feel its too thin and can be unforgiving.

Any recomendations on what is a bit more forgiving to apply.

    Hope that makes sense.

Jingle bells and all the best to everyone for 2010.

Thanks for all the tips, comments, advice etc

    Bob

just use any colored cast vinyl unless you need to print a special cmyk mixed color ??

I normally use Avery 800 or 900 depending on the job or APA Super 70 is pretty lush although not a cast but is a very good material.

If I were you Bob I would just get a couple of metres of various types of cast and wrap vinyl and have a play to see what suits you best personally. Everyone will have their own favorite, some get on better with one brand others a different brand, only way to be sure is to try yourself.
I actually like the Oracal range and would use something like 751C. Having said that I also like the Avery 900 series as well and wouldn’t have a problem using that either.

Some wrap vinyls are laminated because the surface is easily marked, matt vinyl tends to mark more easily than gloss IMO so it’s not always just to protect a print, there was a thread on the forum about matt black marking very easily.

Thanks for the reply Martin. I tend to use Oracal for everything, not that I do a great deal, but want to do / offer more regarding vinyl work.

I find the 751c a bit thin and unforgiving, maybe its just me.

As you say probably better to try various brands.

    Thanks again
