  • Best vinyl for reverse cutting and appyling to acrylic?

    Hi all

I’ve got to make a couple of small acrylic signs with almost flood coated backing (is that the right phrase) and reverse cut letters that show through the acrylic and will then be mounted with aluminuim stand off wall plugs.

I just phoned All Printing Supplies and the chap there seemed to think there may be a problem with the true colour of the vinyl showing through the adhesive side of the vinyl.

I’ve seen a couple of signs similar to this on the boards before but was wondering what vinyl was used and where to get it.

One of the signs will need a bushed aluminium vinyl and the other a blue frosted effect.

Any help advice would be really appreciated.

the blue frosted will work fine in reverse i have done this on windows before and it looks fine so should work on acrylic as i have used silver frosted on acrylic in reverse but not so sure the brushed will work as i think(i maybe wrong) the brushed pattern is only on one side.

    hope this helps

never seen a double sided brush effect film myself. Be interested if you find one tho 😛

Any good quality vinyl should have no problems with a colour change. The new adhesives these days are optically clear. Don’t use water tho, as the water based adhesives will go milky for a start, and the mylar will take forever to release the water that will be trapped.

    Thanks for the advice guys.

Have found that Spandex only supply interior on the brushed ali but Hexis and Dorotape do a double sided 2 & 5year exterior version- samples on the way. Quite pricy @ £12.76 / m 5 yr though but will finish it off a treat.

    Thanks again
