  • Best print vinyl for temporary PVC markings (on marquees)

Posted by John Dorling on September 11, 2013 at 9:07 am

I have a customer who supplies posh marquees for large events and he regularly needs them branded. This is usually with the customer’s logo and only for a weekend. My question is, has anybody found a good material for this? I have tried a few but they stick a bit too well if anything and leave the glue on.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    John

I love it when the customer says I don`t want it to come off in the wash… they asked you to reomve it and letter up with something else. Can`t win.

John, I think they will all leave a mark, though I remember seeing a spray that you spray on the inside of the cloth which attacks the glue and lets you remove the transfer, but never tried it.

Personally I`d try to offer a banner with velcro

    Hi Guys

Thanks for the replies. They are to go on PVC marquees, not fabric, so they are like banner material basically, but thicker and softer.

They have to be decals because the bits they go on are curved and 28m wide x 0.5m high, so a banner would not be practical. I do supply them banners for other types of branding though.

If they are like a banner PVC, then use banner vinyl, just requires cleaning after rremoving.

Not sure if any help but Victory design near chesterfield do a peelable poster, sticks to most things worth having a look at 😀

I have used Oracal Removable print vinyl successfully to put temporary messages on outdoor mounted banners for up to six weeks. No problems at all removing it, and it doesnt leave any glue.

Simon, Which Oracal removable vinyl did you use? There are a few different ones from what I can make out, i.e. 3620, 3162X & also then the wall art vinyls which are supposedly indoor use, but I suspect they may be ok for short term outdoor use.

I have a similar issue to John’s original one.
I have done various signs for the local airport which basically entail printing a blank route map of Europe for example & then adding the flight destinations with removable vinyl stickers, so that if & when a destination changes it can be removed & new ones added as & when required. Some may last for years & some for only a few months.

This has worked well on all solid substrates using a matt laminated vinyl for the blank maps & then MD3 Removable for the destinations on indoor maps, or Scotchcal 50 for outdoor.

My problem now is they want to do the same on an outdoor banner for one location, but from past experience nothing seems to remove well without leaving a discoloured & distorted banner with adhesive residue, even after relatively short periods of time. I believe it has something to do with plastisizer migration.
