  • Bentley wrap with MaxPlus White Python…

Posted by Bart Van Wassenhove on April 29, 2013 at 7:43 am

    Morning everybody,

anyone of you has experience with MaxPlus 3D Animal car wrap film?
We have the privilege to wrap a Bentley Continental GT with White Python film 🙂
But we’re not really sure of the wrapping quality of this material.

    Cheers,
    Bart

MaxPlus do some great 3D and special effect finishes, but they are "car wraps" which basically means they are not warranted for recessed areas like you commonly find on a commercial vehicle. that’s your first issue because as much as polymeric calendered films can be used on cars, most cars (other than taxis) that get full wraps have colour coded bumpers, some with deep recessed air intakes and the like. which means you either piece in the recesses (patch) or the vinyl will most probably fail in those areas.

You also must find out how long they even warrant it for removal.
remember, once you remove a "so called wrap" film. there can be extensive adhesive residue left behind, or the film being difficult to remove, or worse still taking the paint laminate with it.

i am in no way saying this is what will happens with MaxPlus wraps, i mean it is something you must remember and take into consideration when installing.
check the technical spec and be sure to point this out to your customer and get a disclaimer signed as its them specifying the film used. because when it comes to fails or removal issues the last thing you want is a bill for a Bentley respray!

please take some pictures of the completed work and post on the boards, would be great to see it mate.

Best bet would probably be to contact Maxplus & find out from them what vinyl they print their wraps to. If you know what vinyl they are using then you can check the manufacturers recommended installation methods.

    Hey guys,

@ Robert & Martin: thanks for the feedback and excellent advice.
@ Martin: Maxplus is the manufacturer of the 3D vinyl, so it’s not printed but real 3D-textured vinyl.

I’ll be posting some pictures of our work in progress… We start next Wednesday.

    Cheers,
    Bart

my apologies Bert, seen some of their stuff at various places, leather, carbon etc & thought they probably just rebranded it as I have seen others do. Still I was right about giving them a call, who better to give you advice about installing :lol1: :lol1:

Hey Martin, no need to apologize, and off course you were right. Someone who’s trying to help somebody is always right 😀

MaxPlus is one of the hardest materials to work with, Bart can also confirm that. I’ve wrapped several cars with it in Asia, US and Europe and it acts differently in different climates. For one its one of THE thickest on the market at around 350microns and its calandered. But the effects of this material are awesome and there is nothing else like it available with this type of large patterned texture anywhere. Plus it does offer actual paint protection as its so thick 🙂 The glue is easy remove but is full glue, has no air release. The downside is its from Taiwan (PVC is from Taiwan, but the UV/Colours etc are sourced from Europe) Similar colour to Hexis – so trying to get hold of this material is quite time consuming, plus be aware of FedEx import tax etc.. You obviously cannot post heat it either, I did tests on the matt colours and the black did not ‘gloss out’ until it reached 180 degrees C.. Its tough stuff but its not for the faint hearted
