• Battery Pack Labels

Posted by James@MP on April 4, 2004 at 10:47 pm

Hi, i dont know if this sort of question has been asked before, i know a lot of you are into cutting vinyl as a business but i only want to do the small pieces for my self.

What im trying to achieve is this. we produce battery packs for the model market ie boats planes cars, okok enough sales speach, we have found paper lables either get dirty and grubby looking or the sticky wears on and the label starts to peel. We have found clear and white vinyl a4 sheets that we can put through our standard laser printer. The clear doesnt really show up to well with black writing on it, and the white just looks to out of place, The a4 sheets we were using were grafi something from a company in tamworth on the lichfield trading estate.

Are there any other materials we can use that will give a range of colours that we can send through a laser printer or do we need to purchase a special printer to be able to print on other colours ? Were totally newbies to this idea, Small company, not much cash to spare but if we what the correct units are the correct matterials we will look into purchasing equiptment. Standard battery pack label we do is normally 21 labels per A4 sheet of paper. If we can find a vinyl that will do the same that would be cool.

All help appriciated, i know we were all there once.

2 companies might have what you need here James. Xpress and Magic Touch. Not got the web addresses to hand, but I’ll post them later if someone else doesn’t get there first.

If you’ve got a little cash to spare, a printer/cutter might do the job, or you could get someone on here to price you up for what you need. Might be cheaper and more cost effective than doing it for yourself. Not often I’d say that as I’m one of these who likes to do everything for himself, but sometimes a little extra cash on outsourcing can save buckets of time. I run a sign and print shop, but I outsource quite a bit to other signmakers and other printers, saves me days and days of work and i still earn a tidy sum at the end of the job. Just a thought. 😀

why don’t you ask someone local, to cut spray mask film, then you weed in reverse (pick out the letters & numbers leave background) then spray onto your planes?

Outsourcing maybe good for some people but we do tend to do a lot of one off stuff, or sometimes just want a batch of labels at that time, so if we could do the labels our self would be ideal, were looking for products and prices at the moment to see how much purchase price would be at present.

As far as I know, I think all you need is some laser compatible vinyl. I’ll dig out those web addresses for you.

hiya chris, thanks for the info the vinyl grafityp do we are currently using but they only do two colours, dont they that go throught a laser printer, white and clear, white looks out of place and the black laser on the clear just isnt visible enough. If we had a choice of vinyl colours that would go through a laser printer that would be smashing

    James,

Can’t you just use the white laser stuff and do a design with the text reversed out of a block of colour ? I mean like white text on a dark blue or black on yellow etc. ??

Hiya chris, what printer do you use to print with ?
Can someone suggest a cheap printer with low running costs but good quality, doesnt have to be colour but information on both would be appriciated.

    HI

the small run cheepest idea for your application would be to print with your desktop ink jet on to water based inkjet vinyl then laminate
i proberbly got some somewhere its normally only sold for the big roll machines but have seen in a4 see if i can find you some to cut down
but if you send me a file i will do some for you on the solvent machine
