  • Batch processing how can it be done?

    Hi guys and gals,

we have customer, whom we have done work for, for many years.

The collection of work has grown into the hundreds, and they have now asked if we can make them a catalog.

No problem, I can make one of those in Indesign in minutes! but…the files are all Flexisign FS files!!! Urrrhg

Flexi is not supported by Adobe – no news there! but flexi has no automation – how can I make a 4-500 page document from flexisign (Not that I would want to make it in Flexi) but if it can’t do batch convert to something that a page layout program can read then what am I to do.

??? How can I convert FS to (a adobe readable format)

?? is there any batch processing facilities for PS

    thanks

I can’t say for certain if it would work on Flexi files, but my favourite file conversion tool is Graphic Convertor.

    http://www.lemkesoft.com/xd/public/cont … E5Mw_.html

There is a free version but, to get at the stuff that is of interest to us (vector files), you will need to buy a copy. It’s only 35 USD though, and excellent value. It’s got me out of jail on many an occasion.

I don’t know for sure that it will work on FlexiSign files, but maybe an email to Lemke would be worthwhile.

If you get lucky with FS files, it does batch conversion and – wait for it – catalogue creation as well.

Now, where’s that thread in which I was complaining bitterly about Flexi using a proprietary file format, rather than something industry standard. 😀

    Hi John,

thanks very much, I am on PC, but it doesn’t look like it supports Flexisign FS file format (boy are we all surprised – nothing but Flexi supports it) i am finding myself doing more and more work in my Adobe CS3 suite, but it unfortunately doesn’t get me out of trouble this time around.

I am getting the feeling, that I may have to sit and export each file, one by one – but hey there is less the 500.

thanks for the link, much appreciated

Is Flexisign scriptable? If it is, maybe you could write a script to use as a
workflow. On my Mac there is an Automator program, which you can use
to record a series of actions. You save the action, and can then drag files
or whole folders of files onto the saved icon, to execute the action. Is there
    something similar for PC?

😥 no sorry to say that there is not, I have looked into a couple of Macro programs, but I can’t figur out how to make it to move to the next item in the folder 😥

Yes, that Automator looks like a realy cool little app – currently reading up on data driven publishing, and it is mentioned as one of many great little tools in the Mac.

I can see any reference that Flexi is scriptable (not that I know how to, yet!) :lol1:

    anyway, thanks

Granthems should be able to help. They’ve sold Flexi Sign for years.
