• Banner going yellow

Posted by Shane Drew on September 1, 2005 at 12:22 pm

I had a contract print supplier do me a 5m x 2.4m banner about 9 months ago, and the client has rung me to complain that the white parts of the banner are yellowing.

He wants it to be redone at my expense, but I’d like an idea as to why it would go yellow in the first place.

It is the first time I have had this complaint, as none of my own printed banners have had this problem at all in the past 3 years.

    Any ideas?

    Hey Shane,

    How are you?

What kind of banner material was it?

What kind of ink did he use?

    Have you used him before?

The chances of someone these days doing the wrong thing but thinking they are doing the right thing is quite high (I speak from my own experience here 😳 ) and can therefore only offer an opinion from the viewpoint of a dimwit.

    :lol1:

    Hi shane,
sounds like the supplier has either used a low grade pvc with minimal or no UV inhibitors causing it to discolour. He may have done this unknowingly as we have seen the ‘same’ material from a supplier change without warning. A large majority of the material being sold here in the UK is made in Eastern Europe where I’m sure quality control is not always of the utmost concern.
It’s hard one to resolve as it’s a few months old. Best of luck.
    Regards,
    John.

    Thanks Simon,

Hey buddy, doing OK at the mo. Thanks for asking 😛 Just flew back from the Sydney Sign Show tonight. You should have been there mate, well worth the 2 day visit. Spent a wee bit too much money on new stuff, but just got to convince the missus that it was worth it and I’m home free 😳

    Thanks John too.

I have dealt with this supplier a few times in the past. He is pretty big in terms of this sort of thing. I have asked the same questions to him directly but yet to get a reply.

I suspect the quallity of the product is the issue, as when I was installing it, I was not that happy with the grade. Should have said something at the time in retrospect, but I’ll give him the chance to reply before I take the matter further.

I’ve already resigned myself to reprint it tho and cover the cost 😥 . He is a good client and it is not worth any ‘bad blood’ with this situation.

    Cheers

and thanks again to you both for taking the time to reply.
