Yeah they are waterproof because most of the Aussies spend most of their time on the beach 😎

    I wish!

Some of our notes are plastic, to stop them ripping or wearing. But they are also harder to counterfeit. Apparently they will all change eventually.

When they are new, they tend to stick together unfortunately, so the poor eyesighted ones tend to get caught.

We no longer have 1 or 2 cent pieces, and our $2 note has been replaced with a $2 coin.

I read that our notes were developed by the CSIRO and the technology has been sold to other countries to produce a similar currency

I used to work with someone who had a Xerox DC12… one of the best copiers of its time. Every copy the Xerox make places an hidden serial code into each copy, so they can trace each machine back, also the copier would do a pattern match for the notes and disable itself (or so they claimed as we never tested that feature.) or could see this damn serial number.
It could have been lies! 😛

In truth mate, it is waterproof so the beer does not damage it. When we aussies drink, the money is always going to be in better shape than the blokes handling it 😉

Shane, you must be using the money from under your mattress, all our notes have been plastic for at least 10 years. 🙂
