Bought a Rockhopper 38 2 weeks ago – having mega problems. Found out last night the installation engineer had used a Rockhopper ‘driver’. Found the Rockhopper 38 driver on Mutohs website -hidden within a print profile. My problem now is I can’t find any profiles for the media I bought with the printer.
What problems are you having, mate? (hot)

    WHERE DO I START!!
Apart from all of the new parts we have had fitted in the first year and the poor printing quality from the profiles… its been ok.
We’ve found that printing vector files are pretty spot on, created on Corel.
But when we come to print bitmap images we get like a “burnt” effect on the shaded areas. We are going to overcome this by investing in pre-flight, so we can create our own profiles to suit our media. This comes from lack of real support from our supplier of the machine.
We have a couple of decent profiles that we use for printing on white digi vinyl and clear for reverse printing, but as far as illumination goes on translucent its crap!

Yep, this is what I’m finding out. Profiles don’t seem to do the job.
Vector lettering seemed OK, but the test Bitmap I’ve printed has an unusual effect, bit like a fuzzy banding across the image.
I know it’s probably the profiles, but there isn’t much support out there. The best I think I can do is pick a profile that’s in the RIP and try ordering that – if it works I’ll have to stick with that brand!!

I’d be interested to Know how you get on if you buy pre-flight.

    Hi
Have a Rocky 38 past 2 months now have managed to source and play with profiles to get fairly good results, Grafityp have profiles for rocky 38 on certain medias subject to rip, and i know Dorotape are having there range profiled. What rip, software and media are you using.

    Kev

Bought my Rockhopper 38 from Grafityp. They sent me some of their media, but I cannot find profiles for the specific media they recommended. I am using Corel Draw, Photoshop and the Onyx RIP software that came with the rockhopper.
I would be interested to know what an experienced user would recommend, could do with some guidance. (-)

    Thanks

    Tony

We have started using Hexis as our main white vinyl for printing on as we have found that it has good results with our profile and is quite versatile with a couple of others, and which also is white backed so we can use it for illumination. Another media we use is 5929pm from Andersons, which was profiled by Art Systems.

We to had loads of problems 65″ with bulk ink from spandex.
what a waste of time and money, inconsistency with prints over inking, blocked heads, rubber bungs leaking, air leaks in bulk ink systerm, drop out, not dying, hazy prints the list could go on and on.
Sent it back after 4 months with its tail between its legs…….
We know have a Colourpainter 64S I can’t say enough good this about this, does exactly what it says on the tin day in day out.
I believe spandex have stopped selling this as so many came back.

I have just come across this thread & thought i would join in.
Mine is the Rockhopper 1 62″, I was the first idiot in the UK to buy one.
At the time, (1st 3 months) i was pulling my hair out trying to get it to work properly, but that’s another story.
My main problem is it will not print a deep red, no matter what i do with settings or rip all i get is slightly lighter than tomato red (orangy) which is not good enough.
Changing to the eco sol plus inks has not changed anything.
I only have the original rips that came with the machine to work with my Flexi 7.5. also have Graphityps rips for the original inks. none seem to change the colour red to what it shows on screen, whether it is a jpeg or an eps, tried rgb. cmyk, cmyklclm.
This machine seems to have had this red problem from day one. I have been through all the power wash ideas several times, just wastes ink but doesn’t cure the prob.
All the other colours i seem to be able to alter to suit, but not the red.
    any advice would be appreciated,
    Long John

    Long John
thanks for your input! sorry to hear about your probs mate
I’ve had a similar problem with the density of colours aswell including red.
But since i invested in pre-flight i can produce my own profiles and make the colours as rich as i want on a vector basis, although i’m still suffering with quality in bitmap and photo images

I’m from Limerick too – ‘Old thomondgate my native place and all that’ – Re: this machine, I understand that there are ‘issues’ 😮 – I’ve come across a few guys that have passed it over and bought the Seiko Color Painter instead & have heard only praise for that machine.
