  • Attempted break-in!

Posted by Mike Grant on October 24, 2011 at 9:17 am

Some scumbag, knuckledraggin’ lowlife tried breaking into my unit over the weekend. They only managed to cut the handle of one draw bolt and tried munching on the other, whether they were disturbed or gave up easily who knows. Oh well, metal plate and a bit of welding to do to cover the locks. Better safe than sorry. (:) (grab) (bully) :nagnag:

nothing worse mate, had it done several times. we have been very lucky to only have lost a few small powertools because the alarms have scared them off and i think they have just grabbed whats been at hand in the dark. amazes me though as all the printers, cutters, computers etc and they grab things like jigsaw and a cordless screw gun. :lol1:

sounds like maybe kids or someone scared them off midway. trouble is, they may try again. might be best running wire from a car battery hidden inside the door leading out to the padlock and latch, just incase they return. 😉 :lol1:
if they do, you now know your looking for someone with their Hair standing on end! :lol1:

I really hate that! They should all have their hands chopped off. I use to live in a really bad neighborhood. I still own the house because of the horrible housing market here. I can’t sell it. I’ve had two air conditioners stolen and one broken because they tried to steal it (I put a welded cage around it and they still broke the compressor). About $2000 in damage for $25 worth of copper. I’ve had 3 lawn mowers stolen, 3 sets of washer / dryers stolen (the laundry is in an outside room). Multiple windows and storm windows smashed in. They’ve attempted about 12 times in all over the last 10 years to break in. Two of those times they were successful in getting in, disarming the alarm and ransacked my house. Plenty of irreplaceable family stuff now gone forever.

I totally feel your pain. Don’t even get me started on what I’d do if I got put in a room alone with one of them.

P.S. You should make sure the locks are totally covered by the plate. My locks stuck out a little from the covering. The locks were Boron Steel so I thought they’d be ok. They took a torch to heat the locks up enough to make them soft enough to cut with channel locks.

    Simon….

after reading that, your profile picture has me curious. 😕
is this your caged windows, or have you managed to get your hands on one of them and now doing time, posting these from your phone in jail? :lol1: :lol1:

That’s right Robert, it’s to keep me from going berserk on them! LOL I probably would be in jail afterwords though. After one break in I did ask the cop that came what would happen if I shot one of them. He said, "If you shoot them inside, ok. If you shoot them outside, drag them back in.". He was absolutely serious about it too. I think the cops are fed up with it also. Our county budget cuts leave too few cops and firemen on post.

Yeah, that picture was taken when the wife and I were in San Francisco and took a day trip to Alcatraz.

    😀

This is the way things are going these days and why not…
sad thing is, in the UK "we" are the ones being charged for injuring an intruder breaking into your home. its a joke!

Yep, and these cry baby apologists want to make excuses for the criminals too. Especially when they are 18 and younger.

Here’s something cool we have here, even though it’s really shocking to look at. This is 6 days of recorded crimes in my county (DeKalb, Georgia).

My area is just east of the bend in I-20 on the East. Looks like a bag of Skittles exploded.

Best one I heard, (I don’t recommend it!)
was a guy who was feed up with his car being broken into/stolen (somewhere abroad), so he rigged his accelerator pedal to a hand grenade.

As soon as the pedal was depressed the pin was released…..Kaabooommm!!

    I believe he’s still on death row…….. (hot) 🙁 🙁

They try to get in our place occasionally – They’re more interested in the Cig’s and Cash machine in the neighbouring shop. (shared access)

They’ve got a fog bandit fitted and will fill both shops in a matter of seconds

Best thing is it leaves no residue, or trace.

I believe the costs aren’t too expensive either. There’s also a high pitched siren to ‘distort’ the intruder that little more.

Ours went off by mistake one day, the takeaway next door rang the fire brigade thinking the place was an inferno.

    Same ol story
Victim left to suffer and pay for the crimes of others
Whilst criminals have all the support and protection they need

Of course we need to ‘understand’ why they commit crimes!!!

Most will have ‘tinternet in your units, you can rig up CCTV viewable over the net for under £500. Also allows you to keep an eye on the workers(if you have any) while you are away. Cameras can be set to record on motion detect, and send email out on detecton. Beef things up with a talk back system and scare the b’stards away with live chat…..

My neighbouring shop keeper suggested more like 10% of that.

However, It was installed by the company who own his cash machine so probably heavily discounted.

£1500 to protect £20k+ of machinery?

I went to view a unit a couple of weeks ago. It seriously was like a nuclear bunker. Thick steel doors, numerous locks, internal and exterior shutters, drive in loading bay completely secured from the office space. I just wish its location and rent was better.

    The recharge packs are £400+

With most of this kit you are probably looking at insurance discounts too. Cash machine alone would warrant installing one alone.

I think in Southern Africa we can share a few more stories like this with you…….

A couple of gorillas recently gained access to my childrens bedroom (4 yo daughter and 1 yo son. I ice if I think of these guys in my kids room. The local myth is that sex with a virgin will cure Aids, the younger the virgin the more powerfull the "muti"….)

Took cellphones, wallets, cameras, laptops etc etc.

Last time this happened was 4 years ago. I still have not received duplicates of my birth certificate from our "competent" home affairs, so I still drive without a drivers licence because I need an ID to collect the licence, and a birth certificate to get the ID card…same with the passport.

Now my wife is in the same boat. I threatened to stop paying tax, since I now "dont exist", lets see if it works. :lol1:

Car radios is the evergreen favourite of petty criminals. One guy soldered dozens of fish hooks to the bottom of the radio. If the thief yanks out the radio, he is hooked untill such a time you can "collect" your "catch" Lovely idea, that one.
