  • Ashby Price Increases – Did you know?

Posted by Joe McNamara on November 2, 2012 at 1:07 pm

    Hi all,

just had a repeat quote from Ashby for an aluminium sign with channel we had back in july – checked the price against july’s as it seemed more….
There was an increase of about 11.5%.

Rang ashby to query it only to be told that they have put prices up by 9% at the start of the month – nice of them to tell us !.
Apparently the price increase is just for sheet aluminium products.

I don’t think i’ve ever had a price increase snuk in under the radat….

When I queried why we were not warned of the increase in advance, I was told (in a very smug way) that they have five and a half thousand customers, and were they supposed to phone each one to tell them about the increase……
    .
They are only going to tell customers who ask about the increase apparently!

I guess you all know about it now !!!!!

Don’t get me wrong, I understand the increase in costs of materials etc due to worldwide demand, just not impressed by the way the price increase has been brought in without a word of warning.

    Cheers
    Joe

A bulk email to all customers would have taken next to no time Joe & I am sure they are aware of that so no need for the comments about phoning all their customers.
Yes increases in raw material costs happen but most of my suppliers let me know of the increases.
Funny because I use to think Ashby were a great company but over the last year or so it seems to me that they have slipped quite a long way from that. That’s obviously only my opinion based on what I have seem & read.

I share your view, don’t get me wrong I like the Ashby product but I’ve had more problems this last year than all the other times I’ve dealt with them put together. Same old story the bigger a company gets the easier it is for it to lose track.
I can’t fault the product and their prints are outstanding.

well they can’t even quote jobs at present, I’ve sent 2 quote requests to them this week and not head from them on either of them.

Their service is very erratic and I for one am slowly turning to other companies to supply instead of them due to this.

and they already were not the cheapest so must do more checks on their quotes.

    Hi guys
i think in the current climate all prices need to be checked, got a shock the other day and made me stop taking prices i have been paying for granted. Foam board £5.00 per board increase.

Price increases are inevitable as a result of the "quantative easing" that our government have introduced. These increases shouldn’t be absorbed but passed on to our customers. Its called inflation and we can expect to see a lot more if we hope to beat the recession we are experiencing.

i agree id had an account with them for years never late in paying and then this summer i tried to order panels and was told i no longer have an account as i hadnt ordered anything from them for 12 months. I ask if i paid for the items i was ordering would they reinstate my account, only to be told i didnt have 12 months trading with them so no basically. I now have to pay online every time i order and they may grace me with an acount in 12 months time i guess.

I do find the service a little hit & miss, a chase email within a coule of days usually gets a quick response. no probs with the ali trays though, always very good and very well packaged in 3 acres of polystyrene!

composite trays could do with a little revision but, unlike my old supplier, they always come in matching sizes when in two parts or more!

on the whole – dunno who else I’d use and can cope with it.

re the online payment – I don’t like it (in the sense that it’s a pita), I prefer to give details over the phone and not have to remember passwords for worldpay confirmation pages – which involve trawling emails to remember what I changed it to last time I forgot it!

I prefer to pay for materials up front where possible, and on jobs that require trays worth several hundred £££’s, i will always make sure the deposit covers the cost of the tray / materials. No big deal!
