Can anyone recommend a good art Canvas for digital printing.
I’ve tried the one from B&P and the one from Europoint but both seem to
give very dull washy and faded looking results. I have tried printing both sides. Am I doing something wrong, profiles didn’t seem to make any difference.

Martin I also have the same question tried several canvases, they seem flat and non vibrant, spandex do two that I would like to try, but you can’t get a working sample, and the least you can buy is 10 meters 🙄

lots are flat and off colour, lots require profiling and profiling measuring tools.

Martin, the print result will depend on the quality of the canvas. If you have Frederick stretch artist canvas there, it prints a very good result.

You’ll see one side has little specks of cotton freckles (for want of a better term) the other side should be white.

Slow your speed right down, perhaps half of the speed you use for normal printing. If you are printing photos, RIP them as RGB not CMYK.

You get a good result using the overlay feature on some RIPSs too. It basically lays down 2 coats of ink per pass.

The washed out look is nearly always a sign it is printing way too fast. I’d be confident that if your heads are going slow enough, that will not be an issue.

In terms of profiling, I have not done anything in this regard to my printer. I use the profile for my hi quality vinyl material, and it works fine. Both have similar levels of white, and it works well for me.

Don’t forget the liquid laminate to finish, as the dust will settle on the cotton ‘thread’ and it will look like cr@p when it gets dirty/dusty. It also lifts the colour on the print, giving it a deeper stronger colour.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers

    Martin,
Like Darren, I’ve had quite pleasing results using the All Print Supplies material printing with VersaCamm, Cadlink RIP and a generic Roland profile.
The pictures I printed were from a digital camera (studio portrait) and my own digital camera (copy of an oil painting). In both cases the dark colours and skin tones printed quite well compared with the originals, the studio portraits were particularly good, helped by the controlled lighting. My own suffered in that respect.
There are couple of very easy changes that one can make in the Cadlink RIP which will produce much cleaner colours, especially yellows, reds and oranges, combined with Shanes idea of slowing the head speed and applying a liquid laminate would probably produce significantly better/different results.
I have also tried the Hexis product and all the above applies.
    You might also contact Metamark

Been through the whole process and tested loads…..

I think the best is the gloss from Kernow Coatings……

With the Oce coated a very close second…..using a Verde Solven Satin profile although I think there is now one for the Kernow [Oce] available…..

I do prefer the vibrant colours on the gloss although they reflect the black etc……use force black thingy to stop any green tinge.

I use the Universal from B&P and after a nice man came and set up my profiles for it correctly the colours are really good, the bright colours on the canvas are as good as the satin paper.

I print with a Resolve with activasol ink. If you want a sample, I’ll always post one to you.
