Hi Innocent….
My friend just got back from a small meet in Philly.
Frank Manning was there from the 1-Shot/Chromatic/Spraylat company.
Thay just put out a new product which is applied with a brush. I don’t know much else about it other than it is very anti-graffiti, slightly expen$ive, and looks really cool over lettering.
I have Frank’s # if you would ever want to learn more about this product…he is a great guy.

I was wondering if there was a brush on type, if they could put it on with a roller then the job could well be worth doing, I’ll ask around my suppliers if no joy I might well tap you up for that number.

ok for what its worth may i comment here, if i was in your shoes i would ask the following, if i lost out to another company,

are you printing the prints yourself? if your competition is i bet the sqm2 of the print will be around £10 ish sqm2, is this your cost?

dibond, are you buying di bond or a cheaper version, and are you paying the best price? my guess that this being one of the higher priced materials that could lose you a job,

are you laminating your self?

and are you fitting yourself?

i guess if all the parts of the job are handled internally, you should question your buying prices, and hourly rates, if your happy with them, let the competition have the job at little profit, because you wont win,

if your out sourcing some of the above, maybe that was the problem

get a feel for your local competitors, try to know them like you know your customers, how low will they go, are the in the game to make money or just to stay busy,

do there margins drop when they are quite,

i sell into the sign market, and granted i gather lots of knowledge about my competition i believe the expression is having your finger on the pulse 🙂

i know its not as easy as that when you run your own business but maybe you can pick a little bit and use it,

Hi moonbrat, printing is done in house on our Mimaki, pure cost is under £6 per sqm, dibond was the branded stuff, but I buy a hell of a lot of it and would only get it cheaper direct from the manufacturers, anti garaffiti was from Hexis.

After pricing all the materials at cost I was only left with £200 for the labour and profit, far too little in my opinion.

The only way I could think of doing the job at that price would be to have them printed direct to the dibond on something like a zund, then protect with a very cheap anti graffiti soloution, but why would you bother if you had that kind of machinery to do a job with almost zero margin in it ?

They could have looked at it as a loss leader but the client is not that big.

I told the client that I could only stick with my original price but I would like to know when the job has been done so I could have a look at it. Whem I get to see it I’ll let you know my findings.
