Applying vinyl to spare wheel cover before finial lacquer
Hi there
just had a request from a paint/body work shop for some vinyl wording to go on a rigid plastic 4×4 wheel cover.They want me to apply the vinyl before they finish the wheel cover with it’s final lacquering stage in the painting process. So that the lacquer protects the vinyl and seals it on. (”protectection against jet washer” their words)
Can anyone advise me, is this a good idea?
And also how long should the vinyl be left on the wheel cover before they apply the lacquer.
Any advice would be much appreciated, hope everyone isn’t still at the show and someone is left here to help me!!

we do this a lot, more so for motorbike etc.
Just supply them the decal, they apply it to base coat, tell tem to give it a fine mist layer of laquer first before the finished topcaot as sometime the solvent in the laquer will affect the glue. as laquers are still solvent based unlike the basecoat which will be water based

that’s brilliant mate, i can pass that info on to them. Does the lacquer effect the vinyl colour at all? Does it give it a slightly darker hue or anything like that? It’s just i have two silvers one slightly lighter than the other, i’ll go for the lighter one if it’s going to darken it at all.Thanks again
