    Hi All,

I’ve had a client approach us for their fleet graphics . The designer has applied the text and logo over parts of the exterior trims.
When i informed them that i would not be happy applying vinyl over these areas, they asked me to see if i could find away which makes the adhesion to the dimpled plastic possible. Can i seal it with a varnish ? or perhaps a primer might do the job. i look forward to hearing your responses.

    Regards

    Steve

i’ve had good results with regular vinyl and print by using lots of heat and a soft squeegee to press it into all the dimples, it’ll take on the textured look of the plastic though. you need to be 100% sure there are no bubbles in the lam if it’s printed though, it needs to be hot to the point that bubbles will burst if present.

some people don’t recommend it at all, I generally try to ensure a non important part of the design is there (if anything) and tell the customer that it’s not guaranteed to stay there as plastic is notoriously troublesome, if the vinyl begins to come away then it should be removed, Usually telling them you’ve not charged for it in case of the worst case scenario will remove their frown! better to be straight with them about the possibility of failure on plastic than to promise something you have no real control over (imho!)

    HI Hugh,

Thanks for your response. I’ll do just that.

I’ll have to use cast anyway. It’s solid colour over the back third of the van.

The client knows all the problems. What’s he got to loose by trying. It’s just the extra install time.
