  • Applying to rounded surfaces

I have been asked to make and apply guinness logos to a vespa scooter. It had already been done in this theme but the logos were just slapped onto the centre of the panels, looked ok but nothing special. He wanted the logo to cover more of the panel so it flows a bit better

I have now had 4 attempts at applying the harp to the side panel but messed up each one with small folds in the vinyl were the panels roll both ways. Using cast vinyl & have tryed using heat but its not happening.

    Any advice please?

    How are you applying?
    Hing method?
Left to right, top to bottom.

Personally on curved panels I find it easier to tape down the middle fold back peel of backing & cut a section off. ( Make sure the cut is clean otherwise you will get fibres of backing paper) Apply from the centre out, then do the other side.

Does it curve much top to bottom on the area your applying to also?

    for my 2 penn’th

This MAY be the reason for the other decals being smaller.
Smaller area= less chance of creases.

    Thanks for the advice.

Tried hinging from the top and then the side a few times but it kept on creasing. Tried from the middle and it worked a treat! Think i was going wrong by starting on a curved bit instead of the flat area in the middle.

Sure that middle hinging method will come in useful!

    many thanks.

Could always use a hairdrier which will allow the vinyl to take the shape of the item you are covering more easily
