  • Applying large graphics, using a laminator – help please?

I’ve been told that is quite straightforward to apply say- an 8’x4′ graphic to an 8’x4′ board using your laminator.

I’m looking into buying a laminator (nature of our work we haven’t the need for a one before), but if we can use one to apply large graphics to boards, it would be beneficial to us. In case you’re wondering how I’ve applied them up to now, is by using one of those ‘big squeegie’ applicators! Simple tool but very effective.

I’ve also seen a used Rollsroller type (not Rollsroller) machine for sale, but we’re a bit short on space for one of these.

    Cheers guys

We do this on a regular basis, flood coated both 8×4 and 10×5 sheets using our easymount.

It helps too have a work bench at the same height so you can align the trim marks, then run it through in forward to lay the first 6inches, then stick it in reverse, and lay the remainder, keeping tension on the media to prevent it curling and folding crease into it..

We’re tight on space, and are often seen curling boards up the wall as they come out the machine!

Hi it can be done especially if your laminator has roller lift up mechanism, best way is to put you board in to the mid point slide your graphic in and align, lower rollers. Peel backing off until mid point and slit across approx 2 inches from roller and fold paper under. Roll first half down, roll back to mid point and peel backing off and roll down. The reason for starting at mid point is that there is less distance for the print to go out of alignment.

Thanks Kevin, David, & Denise. Some top tips there.

Denise, I did do that. There’s plenty of vids on standard laminating, but I could see any using them to apply onto large boards.
