    Hello

I’ve been asked to apply an image onto a vw caddy rear window. I’ve flood coated these before and found them a nightmare as they are the shape of a bowl!!

Normally I apply wet and have tons of excess vinyl and do each window separate. If I try to do this have you an tips? do ask for excess white vinyl and get the print to the exact size. Try to do both windows in one go?

    All advice welcome!

    Hi martin,

They are actually not THAT bad if you do them dry in one piece (or two).

General recommendation is to fit in a cool environment and strip all the backing off so you can start from the middle and work out. I try to describe it as a ‘union jack’ sort of application to avoid all the excess at one point and varying tension, yanking it around and a mixture of pushing and arcing sweeps with the squeegee will see it laid bubble and crease free. Killer to do if it’s warm and sticky.

A second pair of hands just to present it up to the window saves time too, but entirety doable on your own if you’re not prone to getting frustrated.

You don’t need much excess, couple of inches is enough, but to make it easier design it with as bit of bleed to account for any minor alignment issues. It’s also easier to fit laminated prints and not just a single layer of ‘cuttng’ vinyl!

So much easier with Air release vinyl.

I fitted 12 Caddy vans the other day, flood coated white and then text over the top, we have one to do Monday a full print, for both types I print to MD5A which is air release and its 100% easy fit, the Caddy is not to bad as has been said and if you print and laminate the MD5a even easier, good luck mate
