    Hello guys,

I have been asked by a friend to smarten up a plain motorcycle tank/fairings and am new to wrapping.
For example he has mentioned a jagged torn check pattern, black paint base on the bike already and just adding a single colour for the alternative checks.
I’m just wondering how you personally would go about this? Lay knife tape for the main check pattern I would imagine as you cannot really use app tape when fitting contours I guess.. When it comes to the jagged/torn sections of checks how would you tackle this, wax paper under the edge and hand cutting? or?..

    Please excuse the crude example.
Also attached another example of a jagged graphic.

    Kind Regards,

    Jon

    Hi

I’d doubt you’d do it with cut vinyl. (Seems that is what you are planning). You would never keep registration between the cut parts. If you could layout a grid of knife tape I think it would give a messy finish and would be very time consuming.

Should be done as a single print and wrapped, the jagged edge being part of the printed design as well.

    Cheers

Thanks Dave. Yes, I suggested a printed graphic partial wrap but he wants to keep the black base with some vinyl graphics so metallic colours can be used.

How would the example red truck graphic have been applied, simply cut out on the plotter, offerred up to the truck and each piece applied individually, eyeing the registration (or using a couple reg crosses on each piece perhaps)

Can anyone else offer advice on applying vinyl single colour checkers to a gas tank using the existing base coat?

    Kind Regards,

    Jon
