  • Application Tape Tunneling / Creasing When Rolled Up For Postage

Posted by Christian Davies on July 26, 2017 at 8:18 pm

We are currently using / buying the following DeTape vinyl and application tape to make our wall stickers :

    Vinyl : http://www.detape.de/450serieswallart.aspx

    Application Tape : http://www.detape.de/AppTape.aspx

Both the vinyl and application tape is being purchased through MDP Supplies : http://www.mdpsupplies.co.uk/

We have used both the DeTape clear and paper application tape.

We find the paper application tape far more forgiving and easy to apply than the clear, however once the finished wall sticker is rolled the paper seems to tunnel / crease and the delivered product on arrival to the customer does not look good at all.

All of the wall stickers that we make are rolled up and sent out in a postal tube.

Do you know what would be causing this? Would it be down to the quality of the application tape that we are buying?

Would really appreciate your advise on this.

I have the same problem and worked out that it only lifts from the paper because nothing is holding it in place, as long as the tape is holding the vinyl there isn’t really a problem just explain that’s what it is supposed to do.

Which way do you roll the graphics up?

They should be rolled with graphics/tape facing out. If you are already doing that, you may want to try a roll of the RTape conform 4075 RLA.

RLA® Release Liner Adhesion – With the RLA technology graphics stay neater and cleaner, even when they’re rolled.

It is a bit more expensive, but it would be worth trialling it. If it doesn’t do anything then you don’t carry on but I believe it will certainly help you in the situation you describe.

I’ll second what Jasper has said, We also found that the 4075RLA stuck better to oracle than other brands for whatever reason I’m unsure.

Graphics always facing out and if possible, use the largest diameter tube that still maintains the same postage rate. Graphics in a 4 inch tube will always fair better than a 2 inch tube.

Graphics always facing out for me, that’s the way it was in the roll originally, I use vion clear med tack works every time and allows customer to fit graphics easily without having to mess on marking and measuring ‘ if it looks right it is right’
