application tape problems applying it help please?
Well, not the tape itself, but applying the stuff is getting to me.
I don’t have any problem actually sticking it to the cut & weede vinyl, but it’s taking too long.
So, I need a machine taht’ll do it for me. Not a dispenser, I’ve got one of those, but an actual mangle type set-up.
Grafityp do a cold laminator that they say will do the job, but it runs at about 1000mm / minute (too slow) and costs a grand (too much).
Does anyone know of anything else that’s available?
Or how about a DIY solution?

Sorry mate never seen one that works as well as by hand, the only solution is get someone else to do it , so its a case of employ some spotty herbert or wife/kids/family to do it. 😕

we bought our mangle type and it cost 50 quid. recently one man has been laying up graphics using 300mm wide tape by 2.5m. you can actually get a 700mm wide roll on it but having never tried i wouldnt know.

Signmaster sell an application paper roll holder, that I believe if u turn it upside down it can be used as u mentioned. Costs about £45. 😛

you dont get any faster than by hand..
our guys easily lay-up a 1230 wide roll by 3 metres in about 3-4 mins… its not easy i know and there is two of them but after a while you get used to it.if your on your todd then the dispensers do work well and help lots.. but i dont think they actualy speed you up..

So what is the best way of laying application tape?
Do you smooth it out using your hand after laying it or squeegee it? Also, I’ve found using conform R-Tape much better as it doesn’t immediately stick to the graphics and knacker your vinyl, unlike some!! 😡 😡
Does everyone hover the tape and let it float down or do you stick it down at one end and then smooth it from one side to the other….

I stick the app down on the end and float it down on the vinyl. If you’re careful…no problems.
