  • Apostrophe. Correct usage.

    Hi.
My apologies for sounding like a snob, but I would like to bring up something that has been nagging at me for ages.
I have seen some appalling misuse of the apostrophe, time and time again, in our industry.
I hate to say it, but I have seen it more than once on this very forum.

Everything we do professionally is seen in public.

    When I see an apostrophe used like this;

LOGO’S or SIGN’S it is incorrect, and it makes us all look unprofessional.

    Here is a link.

I have Asperger’s and so am often annoyed by small imperfections. Some years ago I found: http://www.apostrophe.org.uk/ and promoted it on my FB page. 🙂

I have three sons with Dyslexia and have spent many hours getting them to understand the correct usage of the apostrophe.

It doesn’t help when we get King’s Cross station and Earls Court. (hot)

Another that smokes my kippers is the Union Flag being shown upside down.

I did a trade show many years ago in Germany and near to me was the UK pavilion and one of my competitors. The UK Pavilion had the flag upside down (which I got them to change on set-up day) My competitor had Union Flags plastered all over his booth… I decided to tell him on the morning of the first day, five minutes after opening. 😉

Wouldn’t worry about the Union Flag too much, it should be less of an issue after next year…

Asperger’s and three sons with dyslexia sounds like a blast though. Would love to go for a beer with you all, if you’re ever in Glasgow. We could sit up all night discussing the meaning of life and whether there really is a Dog…

We should invite someone with Tourette’s, really spice it up… Phil?

    Sorry. I’ll leave. 😮

That’s nice of you. The English are just too considerate for their own good; always worrying about helping other people and willing to go the extra mile.

You even enshrined that love and willingness to go the extra mile in the national anthem. I’m talking about the loving sixth verse, of course, where good old Marshal Wade is implored "like a torrent" to "crush" the rebellious Scots…

Feel the love. Id be the first to say that we Scots don’t deserve you as neighbours. But, then, it’s not just the neighbours you love is it, you’ve always had plenty to spare for countries further afield? So much so that we’ve never felt like we had to compete with the Irish, Indians, Chinese, more recently Iraqis, afghans, and Libyans, for your attention, to name just a few.

Where other countries export cars and corn and what not, England’s chief export has always been love. It’s very moving.

You remind me of one of my aunties, generous to a fault and never thinking of herself. It’s about time England got some love back, I say. You’ve given so much over the centuries, it’s about time the world repaid you. Payback time, if you will.
